Srry bout having the site down all day today.... I was doing a VBulleting upgrade (mandatory security issue) this morning when our host went for a crap. by the time they got the servers back up and running, I had to get to werk.
now that im back, upgrade has been finished, and host seems stable. There is still 1 more change i need to make that will probably knock the site out again till host gets mysqli werking proper again. These will only be short interuptions in service.
tx for ur patience

Depot: thats the error when i have my config file set to mysqli... currently its set to mysql
Ralf: I am not getting such error message
Ralf: Please let me know the steps to recreate the error at my end

Depot: hang on, i'll change the config file so u can see the error
Ralf: Where you are getting such fatal error
Depot: when i set my VB config file to use mysqli instead of mysql
Depot: then i get the error in any forum page.... www.zookpower.ca/forums
Depot: http://zookpower.ca/forums/
Depot: try it now
Ralf: ok
Depot: and?
Ralf: I have checked and found that its issue with the code of your file
Ralf: Please cross verify it with your webmaster
Depot: ok.. i am the webmaster... this file is from Vbulletin and it werked before todays nitemare with ur servers going for a walk
Depot: do not try to pass the buck.. I have talked to VB already and they tell me its my h ost not running mysqli.. and i beleive VB over u guys rite now
Depot: the code line u r talkin bout is...
Depot: $config['Database']['dbtype'] = 'mysql';
Depot: vs..
Depot: $config['Database']['dbtype'] = 'mysqli';
Ralf: root@england [/home/admin1/public_html/forums/includes]# php -m | grep *mysqli
Ralf: mysqli
Depot: 1 werks, 2 doesnt
Depot: ok, so what r u sayin?
Ralf: MySqli is enabled on the server
Depot: so where is the problem? what do i do to fix it?
Ralf: As i requested you to cross check the code under your account
Depot: in english?
Depot: this is the line in the affected file...
Depot: $link = mysqli_init();
Ralf: Yes i know
Ralf: And i don't have good knowledge of programming
Depot: so how can u tell me that the problem is in my code and not on ur servers? and explain to me why it worked b4 todays crash and now it doesnt work????
Depot: if u dont know, pass me onto someone that does know
Ralf: The file class_core.php is edited on 08 March 2009
Ralf: At 15:42
Depot: whats that in EST?
Ralf: And server time is Sun Mar *8 18:55:44
Ralf: CDT
Depot: ok, yes, i repalced a bunch of files trying to make thigns werk again in case ur crash corrupted my files
Depot: ok, i just compared my back-up files from just b4 the crash to my current files... that section in the class_core.php is identicle!.. u want copies of b4 and after???
Depot: hello?
Depot: any1 home???
Ralf: Yes i am here
Depot: do u have any info 4 me? or least able to pass me onto someone that knows this stuff?
Ralf: Right now we don't have anyone from devlopment department
Depot: so? u were jsut keeping me on the line to tell me what?
Ralf: I have already request you to check the code of your file
Depot: i have and my code is IDENTICLE to what it was b4 ur crash....
Ralf: We wont touch any of the file/folder till clients request us.
Depot: ok, im the client.. and im requesting u guys get mysqli werking!
Ralf: mysqli is enabled on the server
Depot: that mite be true... but its not working for me and my code has not changed!!!!
Ralf: Your file is edited today itself
Depot: its was re-uploaded but has not changed!!!
Depot: ralf : obviously, you are not listening to me closely or just selectively ignoring what I am telling you... To date I've had nothing but good things to say about micfo tech support but you are changing my opinion very quickly... now get me someone on the line that will actually read AND pay attention to what I am typing AND that knows what they are doing as it pertains to my case
Ralf: Let me transfer your chat to My senior admin
Depot: ok
info: Please wait while I transfer the chat to 'Victor'.
info: You are now chatting with 'Victor'
Victor: Hi
Depot: hi victor, do u have access to the prior chat?
Victor: allow me *few minutes to check your issue *
Depot: ok
Victor: Yes
Victor: I am reading it
Depot: beep me when ur done
Victor: sure
Victor: http://zookpower.ca/forums/
Victor: Please give a try now
Victor: the site is working
Depot: yes it works now cause i have it set to mysql
Depot: but when i change to mysqli it all goes to hell
Depot: want me to demonstrate?
Victor: yes
Depot: ok try now
Victor: The function mysqli is not defined properly in your coding scripts. *its mentioned/defined *somewhere in your scripts.
Depot: and that has not changed since b4 todays crash.. want a copy of the affected file?
Victor: which verions you are using php4 for your website coding. ??
Victor: As mysqli works only with php 5
Depot: Im using VBulletin v3.8.1 Patch Level 1 which requests php 4. something and up.. and ive already confirmed with them weeks ago that php5 is fine
Victor: So please contact your website owner correct the scripts accordingly
Depot: i confirmed all that b4 i allowed servers to be moved from sacramento to englad
Depot: ffs, i am the website owner
Victor: mysqli only works with php 5 and not with php 4
Depot: and VBulletin works with php5
Depot: I dont know how many different ways to say this but let me try again.... Everything worked fine yesterday. Today it does not. only major factor is the crash earlier this morning.
Depot: i was runing mysqli since the move to england server without any issue - untill the crash
Depot: the problem does not lie in VBulletin, rather it lies on micfo's end
Depot: I've changed back to mysql while we sqauble just to keep the majority of the forums up and running.. but i need mysqli for some of the more advanced features to work
Victor: try now
Depot: uploading mysqli file
Victor: I have enabled your php4 pages t run wiht php5 *and also mysqli should working fine.
Depot: seems to work now
Victor: fine
Depot: ok, so can u explain to me in simple laymans english... what happened??? why did this all goto hell in a handbasket after this mornings crash???
Victor: mysqli works only with php 5
Victor: and it *seems that your domain was coded with php4
Victor: I have added the handlers for your .php pages to work with php5
Victor: in this way though the php coding is for php4 for your site,
Victor: but due to handlers its inegrated with php 5
Victor: and thus mysqli started working agin.
Depot: and this would have occured cause my last major upgrade was done on sacramento which didnt support mysqli and thereby was done in php 4?
Victor: again*
Victor: nope.
Victor: on sacramanto, mysqli php module is not enabled
Victor: and that is why your account is transferred
Depot: yes, i understand and requested that... but im asking since my last VB upgrade was done on sacramento, as it forced into php4 mode then and the migration to england didnt take that into account?
Depot: as it forced = was it forced
Victor: nope.
Depot: ok im lost. VBulletin is supposed to be good for php 5, but from what ur saying, it isnt? is that correct?
Victor: There is no question of forcing to php4 or 5
Victor: The problem on sacramanto is that
Victor: the mysqli was neither compiled for php4 nor for php5 *
Victor: and that is the reason it *was not working ther and your account has been migrated to england
Depot: actually, thats the reason i requested my account be moved to england
Victor: fine
Victor: Please let me know if you have any more issues *
Depot: but u still havnt explained to me why everything was working fine before todays crash and not after? why did I have to waste the last 2 hours with tech support to get it back to the way it was before this mornings problems with micfo????
Victor: I am not sure who had done and what exactly the changes were done to your account
Victor: I have just checked and found that php handlers was not there
Victor: and therefore the mysqli was not working *
Victor: I have added the handlers in .htaccess file. thats it.. :)
Depot: o.k. can u explain to me why Ralph was unable to find what you found? instead, kept telling me problem was with my coding??? This is not what I've come to expect from tech support
Victor: I am not sure about it.
Victor: Anyway, the fact is that the problem has been sorted out now.
Victor: I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you on behalf of him.. :)
Victor: You are welcome
Depot: Im sorry, but thats not an adequate answer... as a supervisor, u should be able to come up with a better response
Victor: Yes I can understand that.. :)
Depot: tell u what... rite now, my site is up and running and i am happy for that. I am not happy it took this much time out of my life to get it back to where it was less than 24 hours ago. I leave it to u to email me with a better explanation of what's what.
Victor: Anyways, I will ask Ralf to take care henceforth.
Victor: May be he was not able to found the root cause *instantly.
Victor: Once again I *apologize on behalf of him..:)
Victor: Hope you can understand us.. :)
Victor: anything else *?
Depot: i understand, Im just not happy with all the time Ive wasted today for apparently no good reason. I look forward to a more detailed response/resolution to what happened today.
Depot: via email
Victor: ok
Victor: anything else ?
Depot: thats all, ty for all ur help
Victor: ok
Victor: You are welcome
Victor: Bye bye.. :)
Depot: bye\
