AFAIK, the 88 is a power assisted type with a booster servo.
The 82 is a non-power assist so the bores are bigger.
My 1984 SJ410 without power assist works on my 88 chassis and it stops ok with slightly more pedal pressure. I actually prefers non-power assist since it feels better and if the engine dies on a hill, I still get full braking power.
