I'm gathering materials to do the 3link in the rear of my sammurai.
What bushings should I use, and where do I get them?
I was thinking of using urethane, but they seem like they are too stiff and will transmit vibration. Maybe they won't seem so stiff with weight on them, anyways I'd appreciate any advice
Thanks in advance

Hate to say it but 3 links work fine. If it broke it wasnt properly engineered, meaning materials just werent heavy enough or you just didnt build it rite.
As far as bushings SJKrawler, why not urethane ? Alot of people use hiems all round and there is no give at all with them. They are noisy tho, squeekin and creekin. If you use just OEM bushings, you might end up with too much play in your system wich could make for some ill handling characteristics.

Why not urethane?, well, I thought they were a little stiff, but since you say people have used hiems all around, makes me more at ease to use the urethane.
However, I might try to get the old bushings out of the tracker arms to use for the outer links and use the urethane for the Y-link. I will also be using the ball joint or johnny joint from the tracker, since it has proven to work on that.
Thanks,
Keep 'em coming

Just what I'm looking for there drtysuzuk, $10 a set(4) or each?
I won't be using the tracker rear end links, I will be making up my own out of 1.25" 3/16" wall tubing. Will gusset if necessary. The only thing i'll be using from the tracker is the balljoint, and maybe the bushings if I can get them out.
Thanks

SJKRAWLER ITHINK IPAID $10 EACH. IF YOU USE 1-3/4" SCHED. 80 TUBE IT WILLFIT OVER THE LINKS PERFECTLY AND IS PLENTY STRONG.

sj kawler,
reason i'm sayin this that i did a sidekick rear coil swap, using the orginal arms and the link with the ball-joint...broke the o.e ball-joint!so i built a y-link using gm bushing, from a idea on one of the sites,,i found that when i flexed up the rear of my zook the y-link had no flex from side to side and either the arm broke or the bushing was toast in a afternoon!so back to the drawing board!this is when decided to do a 4-link using heims and some heavy duty tubing(not sure of size or thickness depot or fulload would know)....so i'm tryin to save you some time in the long run,,look in the magazine's most guys that run the rocks run the 4-link,even drag car's,compacts, monster trucks etc...they do it cause it works! bigzook

How did the ball joint break? Maybe, was it forced beyond its range of movement?

Im just not big on the stock setup. Ive seen them work and I dont think Id go thru all that labour to get the same or less flex than I have now.

sj
its all opinion,,in some respects as i tell all the guys"it was more fun just locked, spoa'ed,and 31"tires"....but all the bullshit i went thru to get it dailed in is worth it when you see your zook flex up!
i think if you do it and you don't want anything to brake use limiting straps,so you don't pop coils and brake that balljoint!

I had a look around for other options for ball joints. Found a place that sells GM control arm ball joints. The press in kind. They looked to have about 5/8 thread on them. Not sure how much movement they had though.
Anyone use these, or know of someone who does?
