I have no idea why my 92 sidekick onlly wants to start once a day. I start it , run it for a bit, turn it off go back to it and it wont start again till the next day. It has power but it seems not to the plugs. I have replaced the fuel pump (original problem) and the ECM (then it started once a day). I have checked the wiring and double checked there are no shorts anywhere.
Any assitance or leads would be great.

Have you checked or canged your plug wires, cap/rotor lately?

yup, changed cables, cap, plugs I brought it to a guy who says he has seen this before with sidekicks, says he will get it. I will let you know. Apparently sidekicks do this and it all starts from the ECM. Then messes other things up

I have 93 Sidekick 1.6 8v with auto tranny which also has the same problem. I just change my fuel pump, cap, rotor and air filter today. The car has the same problem again. I can start in the morning no problem. Running is fine. However, it cannot start again if the car stop running in between a 30mins or 1 hour. After the engine cool down a bit and it start again.
I open the intake and see fuel pulse from the injector. (When the car cannot start!) I also see the the spark from coil to distributor wire. However, I got no spark from spark plug wire to spark pulgs. I will get a set of new wires and used distributor. I just got my 5 days off. Hopfully, I can fix it before go back to work.
One more think I want to mention. I also try to take off the ECU which is located behind the speaker. I take it apart to see and burnout inside the circuit board. I cannot find any burn cap or resistor. So I bring back to friend's circuit board shop to test the value of some of big cap or resist.(We cannot test every little pics!) They seem to working fine. So what I try to say is follow my path. It might be just the distributor problem. Good Luck!
I will let you know what is the problem in my Sidekick. Hopfully, I can answer your question.

I also try to take off the ECU which is located behind the speaker.
Keep your ECU away from the speakers. The magnet in the speaker can interfere and even destroy your ECU. Magnets and microchips do not get along.

The ECM is located left side of the dash right behind the speaker. The factory decide like this. Do you mean I have to take out the OEM speaker to get rid of the ECM problem?? I doubt about it! Anyways, it may be a good call why some of the sidekick have the ECM problem. :)

Factory position is fine as long as there is enough space between the 2.. factory speakers are pretty weak so u dont need much space. I'd be more worried about if the speaker or ECU were moved or upgraded so that they get close or even toughing.

Spending almost 3 hrs under hood. I figure out I have spark and fuel. So it means nothing related the ignition to cause the cold start and hot die problem. One thing I am sure is too much fuel from the injector which cause all the spark plugs build up carbon and fail. I will try the tempurature senor. (The green plug!) It is the only one to generate the signal to ECM. I also have to check the TBS again to make it working proper.
I also change the fuel regulator and the injector. (I have spare at home!) It is my first thought they cause too much fuel to the engine. However, nothing different when they are in!
I do adjust the injector pluse screw which is cover by a little rubber. It makes no different!
finally, I unplug the 6 pins plug. (The one has 2 pins for the injector and 4 pins to the TPS.) I can start the engine easy. Of cause, once the engine with no fuel. It stop by itself. That is why I confirm way too much fuel to cause the hot hard starting problem.
That is what I did in the last 3hrs under the sun. I need to put new tempurature senor and wait for the engine cool down a little before I check the problem again!
(I need to cool down too!)
All the things I did when the engine hot and die!
I hope it would help your guys a little.

Anyone tried ECU external repair?
I read there was a service publication to repair lost fuel pulse to injector from fatigued ECU.
Appears the external repair technique will restore no start condition resulting from failed ECU or generic common fault 1990-1994 ECU(mitsubishi)
The repair technique is available for sale on Ebay but wondering if anyone hass tried it and basically researching what is done to bypass faulty ECU without removal of actual computer!
Thanks for any help. At a cost of $500.00 for basically any fuel component I just can't afford to try and hang on to the old girl
