I have always concidered DS spacers an intermediate step to modifications. In other words, a temporary solution, or bandaid solution. The correct way would be to have your drive shaft extended. This does a few things for you.
1/ better drive line angle.
2/ superior tube.
3/ new u-joints ( most wait till they break)
4/ cost less than spacers.

And if you have a welder, hack saw, grinder and a piece of paper you can do it yourself (shorten or lengthen)
The balance will not be perfect but it will be close....

Easiest way is to grind the existing ballance weights off, cut the tube in half, slip a 2" mechanical tube over both ends to the right length and weld up the ends. You can fine tune the ballancing with a hose clamp.

I find the best way is to completely take the shaft apart, grind and pull the yolks out of the tube and clean them up for the new tube.
Then measure exactly how long you need your tube to be and then cut the tube you bought from Metal Mart to lenght. Here is where the piece of paper comes in. In order to get a straight cut wrap a piece of paper (lenght wise) aroud the tube and tape it in place really tightly. If the paper is perfectly square all the edges will line up perfectly, if its not lined up perfectly it will not line up and overlap. Take your time, a perfectly square cut is what you want here, it makes it easier later when you are setting the shaft together.
Then just phase the yolks perfectly and weld a nice even bead around the tube.....voila!! a new D shaft!!
If you want soem pictures of the work this will make I will post....

I would have to agree. I would also prefer to lengthen the shaft, but, as a temp solution, or a quick easy fix, the spacers work.
I have run one on my old zuk for quite a while with no difficulties.
Now, don't get me wrong, I would have much preferred to have the full shaft in place, but the way I was looking at it was this:
Spend a weekend doing the shafts, or spend a weekend wheeling (not necessarily a full weekend)...
Also, when I break a shaft, a stock replacement shaft would work, whereas with a custom shaft, you are fawked!!!
Either way, they both work, just one is more work than the other... and either are cheap easy solutions with the proper tools and know how...:yike
