Ok guys opinion time, LJ got its heart pulled out today as there's some terminal issues with it. I have 3 choices:

1: 1.0L SJ- prolly the easiest bolt in, but not much of an increase.

2. 1.3L Carbed - somewhat simple, better power.

3. 1.6L 16V- Vroom vroom but miles & miles from stock, & lotsa fab werk.

Opinions???

Why not 1.6 8 valve with EFI? they are plentiful and have enough power to cruise the malls.

That lil puppy would go fine with a 1.6, 16 or 8 valve. I wouldnt even bother with a 1.3 and while we're at it, isnt the SJ block cast steel/iron ? If so that would eliminate that choice in my eyes..... or v8 the fawker :ev:

VW Diesel  :D That's my choice.

I have heard many a good things about the 1.9L Diesels. I too would like to go this route next (Unless I can find a cost-effective 1.6L 8V swap in the near future)...

I'd go 1.6L 16V if I were you.

Well being into zooks like most other zooks I think the answer is obvious. We use what every we can find free or as close to it. Cause cheaper is better. No? Of course with the deal you found on that rig you can afford to put a few bucks in and still come out ahead. I saw one of those a few miles from my place but the rust has realy taken over. Love the style though. The funniest thing is to see two heavy men riding down the street, they just fill the whole truck.

Thanks for all the input guys, it's much apreciated. The more i consider it the more i am actually leaning towards the diesel. Maybe somebody on this site who has done it might be interested in doing a parts list and a brief write-up on it to help me with my descision? Oh and seeing as i seemed to have scored yet another set of Toy axles, im thinkin they will find a home under the monkey. Thats gunna be kinda tough seeing as the LJ has some pretty odd characteristics ie. the steering box is behind the firewall beside the transmission (yikerz), but more then doable.

Thanks again guys.

another swap I remember hearing bout was the ford/mazda 2.3, 2.0 with tranny. torquey motors but heavy cast blocks

Stick with the 1L and run dual transmissions. A friend and I are just finishing it up on his SJ, we moved the motor forword and inch wich was easy, I just welded a peice of flat stock on the stock mount and drilled new holes, cut off the bell housing on the second trans and was able to use angle iron to bolt the two transmissions together using the bolt holes that connect the 2 halfs of each trans, got a stock slip yoke turned down on the lathe so its just a single shaft with the center splined to connect the two after cutting some of the output and input shafts down with the zip disk (input and output shafts have the same spline count) then we got another stock slip yoke turned down and a flange welded to the end of it to connect it to the t-case, the t-case had to be relocated an inch back from stock location to fit it all and all it required was drilling of new holes on one bracket and welding on a peice of metal to another bracket to get more room for bolt holes and that was it, only reason we hav'nt wheeled it yet is because we did a motor swap at the same time and its having oiling issues. with the second transmission in it will 140:1 in first-first-low.

just another option :)

I always thought that 5 reverse gears would be kinda cool. flip it into hi-range, put one tranny in rev. and fly down the road in reverse at 80 km's an hour.

Bwahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!

Get some video when you are done. I would love to see you flipping though the reverse gears in the mud :D

we took out the reverse gears on the second trans as well, forgot to mention that.

we had a crapy drill hooked up to the first trans input and in first first the output shaft is spinning SLOW, i put the stock jack shaft on it and tried my best to stop it and there wasnt a chance i was going to and this is befor the t-case and diffs!

Lets face it. Parts for these things are getting scarce. I would go with 1.6 8 or 16. They are newer and parts are a hell of alot more plentiful if something goes wrong. Might be more work, but you get alot more. If something brakes (drive train wise) you won't to pull your hair out trying to find parts and your wallet won't be in too too much pain either. Way more power, proven reliability. I will site Depot for that one. Did I say more power? Its just Fawkin cool to see a 16v in an LJ, also. More power.

And when your all done and bored after 2 months of driven it, I can swoop in, Jew ya down on the price, and BAM!!!! I got a cool LJ in my driveway:D

lol somebody brought this back from the dead.

it's gettin a 1.3 FI put in it simply cause i have a low milage motor and trans sittin here complete.

as for axles i decided on the stock axles with 410 gearing and front disc conversion, better highway speeds and better braking, and a nice set of 31's on alum rims, this will only ever be a mall crawlin beach cruisin ice creme getter for the family.

the kick aint selling so i guess ill sink some money into it and tear off that ugly kick body n maybe put a sami body on it for nostalgia and wheel the piss out of it.

Anybody have any idea why this showed up last week (before Evolvocane posted) as a new post?

Oh, and you should post up some pics of the LJ, Sarge. I always enjoy checking out other guys builds...helps motivate me to get off my lazy butt for mine.
