I have gone over this about a million times now and I have finally made up my mind, I have a tracker with everything I need, I just need to know, if I retain the Sammy 5-speed, is the fact that the tracker is an AUTO going to make a big deal for the harness. The guy who is helping me has done a conversion already, with a 1.3L injected to 1.6L and did not have to change the harness or computer, so I think he still has that 5-sp harness, I just needed to know incase it is gone. I would also be interested in knowing if there is a Canadian supplier or manufacturer of the conversion kits. Nothing against the states, but I would rather support a local outfit. Thanks

what year is the tracker? The older the auto the easier it shouldbe to figure out.
I have seen an auto in a samurai but it was a trail rig only so i have no idea what it would be like on the highway and how it would shift gears.
If you could keep the wiring and hoses for the auto tranny in order (mark everyone from where it came from in the kik) it should be no big deal.
As far as installation goes you will have to "massage" the tranny tunnel to make it fit in the original hole.
There is no vendor in Canada that sells these adapter plates. You could make your own motor mounts and spacer and plates but then you are stuck with the two holes that hold the plate on to the tranny. I was about to drill them out and helicoil for a m10x1.25 pitch but broke down and bought on instead.
The reason you'll have to re tap is because these bolts that are required cannot be bought anywhere. (trust me i tried) they are custom machined and the guys that quoted me needed a minimum order of 75 pieces at 13.00 a bolt.
There is another person on this board that has another great way around this as well but i'll let him explain it, if he chooses.
Usually the 5 speed samurai will not start unless the clutch pedal is depressed so you will have to find the clutch safety switch and jump it out.
That's all that i can think of right now.

Sorry, I guess I should have been more specific, I want to retain the Sammy 5- sp, I do not want the AUTO in the truck. I just wanted to know if the computer would give me any hassles not having the auto in there. I will look into either a rock lobster or dual T-case this winter, for now I just want to get her out on the trails. Is there some were I can order the kit I need, or should I be looking on websites until I find it, I do not mind ordering it, I just do like ordering and not seeing what I am paying for until it is here.

the specialty bolts full is referring to is the new style kits the US companies are selling for the 1.6 conversion. They are basically a stud with an M8 on one side and a M10 on the other... custom made.. cant buy em like that. the entire purpose of those bolts is to avoid drilling out the top 2 holes on ur tranny and going through bolt like the original 1.6 convo kits.
To use an auto wiring harness and puter with a stick tranny Im sure its possible. A stufy of kick auto and manny schematics will show u what u have to bypass or fake. Offhand I dont know what exactly i sneeded but Im sure it aint much if anything. Ur clutch switch will need to be added in... probably tapped into the park/neutral switch wire.
if u need help or schems, pm me the models of kick and sammy and I can dig it up for u after the weekend.

There should be no problems with it at all. The stock 5 speed will do the trick. Just to be sure when you wire in the new motor check the wiring diagrams in your Factory service manual or at least the chiltons manual for your year tracker and see what ports feed into the ECM and see if any are Auto tranny related.
If you tell me what year it is i could quickly check it for you. In reality when you do the harness all you need is the stuff that powers the motor, ie distributor map sensor etc...
A really good kit and tech support from the Us would be trail toucgh. They have the best design out there and no need to drill the two 9/16ths holes like you used to have to do. They can also do your harness to slide right in. There are 6 wires that you have to hook up directly into your sammy.

I'll give you a quick Pm KAC.

what year is the tracker.
I'm running an auto computer from an 89 in mine, using the sammy tranny.
the maunal computer also works the way i wired things. there was no difference in the EFI side of the wiring just in the feed back the trans gave the computer. The auto computer computer controles the TC lockup. The mamual computer get signals from the tranny for fourth and fifth gears, both are for improved fuel economy. For the couple cents in gas it would save my i just did not use these wires.

To save all this problems you could just bring the auto kick to me in Port Elgin and I'll trade you even for a kick with a 5 speed. then you have the 5 speed wire and computer and I have the auto trans. hows that sound.

Thanks for the help guys, some how I doubt I will be driving or towing the thing to Port Elgin, HAHAHAHA. Thanks for the offer, the only reason I want this thing is because the motor is spotless and runs like a top. I hope to have the kit ordered and the thing under way next week.

Rob I can't wait for you to get that swap done so we can hit the canal etc. Are you going to also do an internal cage on the sammy because i've got a hankering for a t-bone lol.

You never told us if it was an 8valve or the 16 valve 1.6? When you bought the kit did you go for the $329.00 special with the harness or will you tackle that yourself?
I have installed trail tough's kit and it is top notch. have fun and let us know how it goes. If you have any troubles lemme know.
When i get some time off work i'll give you and Craigzuki a shout and i'll get a couple of guys to shoot down for a weekend run.
