For those of u familiar with sammy t-cases i got a Q for yah...

today I lost front wheel drive again... for those of u that were at suzican in 2003 that saw me rebuild my case saturday morning, this is the same problem. When u shift from 2 to 4, the shift fork moves a coupler that ties ur rear output to ur front hence engaging 4wd. well i musta bent my shift fork again cause the coupler is skipping due to not full engagement.

Seeing as this is the second time this has hapened to me and ruined another day Im gonna depot style my case... I wanna weld that coupler in 4wd position permanently!

Anyone done this? any ideas/suggestions? This will entail welding a splined coupler (inner spline) to my output gear shaft inside the case. it needs to be solid and square without wabble or warpage - not my specialty :boot:

gonna tackle this on wednesday.. looking for any help or opinions out there.

It has been quit a while since I have had a sami case apart, but one thing you may want to look at it adding a spacer between the gear and the shifter gear to keep it engaged. This would be better in my mind as you wouldn't be taking the hardening out of and internal parts or warping things. Let me know what you find works.

I took the fork out and spaced the shift collar like Mudlite said.

thats a great idea.. i have spare collars I can use for spacers too.

Unless you can treat and harden the parts afterwards, I wouldn't recommend welding AT ALL.

In a torsion situation, even with a collar over the shafts, they will shatter.

Welding has a tendancy to do that.

I suspected to hear somethign like that... hence I asked first. spacers is the way Im gonna go now fer sure.

check for the bearings that are suppose to keep the shift lever in place. there are 3 small bearings for the shift forks. one is placed in the outer portion of the case with spring and alen wrench; second one in the center of the two shift fork rod and the last is inside of the tcase with spring. i had one tcase with the spring missing in the center portion.:brows:

Talk about bringing up the dead! LoL. you might want to check thread dates when responding. Does Depot even run a stock t-case anymore? ;)
