well apparently MNR agrees about the condition of MoonRiver camp/trails condition and allowed us (SOXC) to clean it up.

Peter from NL
"Pete,
I spoke to Parry Sound MNR today. You made a great choice with the
Moon River campgrounds. They think it is a great idea. They were very happy
with the cleanup of Black Lake that Mike's club did earlier in the year and
they are aware of the troubles in the Moon River area. A few years ago they
actually did a clean up through there themselves.

One request they made was that we take photos before and after the clean up.
She wants to add them to her file.

How firm is the date ? I will either arrange for a dumpster or I will see if I
can get a big trailer and a free dump pass. As far as press coverage - Given
our experience last time with the Black Lake clean up we might just run an
article ourselves for coverage and see if we can publish some positive MNR
comments - TBD. I will also look at getting some coffee and bites from Tim
Horton's.

Keep me up to date with any news or date changes please ? ..and thanks again
to you and your members. This is the face of off roading we want people to
see.

Cheers,
Pete

We set up the date for Oct. 23.. if anyone is up for some good PR work, let me know I'll sign you up or just show up

x-post from SOXC:
"Moon River Camp/Trail Clean-up Oct 23rd
Saturday, October 23, 2004

Ok guys, you have all read the other stuff so far about doing a cleanup of the Moon River area campsites and stuff. Well, we WILL be doing this on Saturday October 23rd.

As usual all are welcome, and I encourage more of you to come out for this as well as it really helps the environment and sheds a very positive light on SOXC.

This is being set-up and the details taken care of by Peter Wood with NL4x4. he spoke to Parry Sound MNR and they all feel we have made a great choice with the Moon River area and they think it is a great idea. They were very happy with the cleanup of Black Lake that Mike's club did earlier in the year and they are aware of the troubles in the Moon River area.

One request they made was that we take photos before and after the clean up. She wants to add them to her file.

wicked man

here more info we got from Peter @NL:
"Pete,
So 23rd it is. FYI - A bit of info I got from MNR, below. I thought the
Reserve was East of 69 though (Crown Atlas) but I'll check and give the Chief a
call if necessary. I'll also call Bob seeing as MNR mentioned it but don't see
it being a problem.

However, please note point 2 ! It would be worth warning people and urge
caution.

1. Lands south of the Moon River are in the process of being turned over to
the Wahta First Nation. I recommend you contact Blaine Commandant, Chief of
the Wahta FN [705-756-2356] for support of your proposal and approval to
work in this area.

2. Furthermore, I recommend you use caution when cleaning up the campsites
in this area. This area has been home to many young party-goers. I would
be very cautious when picking up garbage in these campsites to ensure you
don't get pricked or otherwise come into contact with any foreign substance.

3. The 4-laning of the 400 highway is in full construction mode in this
area (especially south of the Moon River). You should contact MTO to ensure
you don't come into conflict with any work crews. I suggest you call Bob
Bird at 705-497-5464 to discuss.

Thanks,
Pete"

Our fearless leader the Peter will be arranging everything, all we got to do is show up ;)
