Hi Guys,
Well,got the rebuilt head on my 89 kicker.Hubby had a devil-of-a-time getting her running right :bang: ! He's a Ford/**** man,never been into a zuk.Got the head on,and....SMOKE everywhere  !!! Readjusted the valves,set the timing,tightened the mainfold,and viola! No more smoke.
He put new plugs in it and we took it,totally stock,to a trail.Did pretty good beings it has stock tires on it and they ain't the best!Didn't do too much muddin' tho,not with those tires  . A couple hills,it just couldn't manage...not enough bite and the stock hub on the driver's side was stuck. They took it apart and it was dry.Got it back on,and away we went, again.Did better, then.Still need more bite ;) .
Had to trailer it over since we didn't have the tags on it,yet.Got it out on the road today, and boy did it drive mean :yike .I thought we had a flat and hubby thought we bent a rim.Turned out it was dried mud :D .Washed it out and it drove much better.
Think I'm gonna have to name this one 'Run-a-way'.It seems to want to go at it's own speed on the trails-faster than I want it to!When we got it out, today,it wanted to try to cut out on me.If I held the pedal steady,it would spit and sputter.I could feather the pedal and it would pick up and go on.We think it may need an egr valve.Parts store didn't have one and no reference number for one.Hubby is unsure whether it is egr or idle control :yike :yike . At idle speed,it wants to lope, speeding up and slowing down.
We did get new plug wires for it,today, and a pcv valve and a fuel filter.Haven't got the fuel filter on,yet. We washed the thing and cleaned it up,again.Hubby cleaned the engine off. After he did that, there was some sort of hissing or spewing noise :bang: .Vacuum, maybe? But where?
The guy who had it,before us,I think never did anything to it,but dismantle it and half way put it back together.Hubby is trying to get it all back together, again.A bunch of stuff has already been put back like it should have been.
We are starting to get a little blue smoke again, maybe that can be solved tomorrow. It is an 89 SOHC 1.6 automatic....don't say it! I didn't want a standard shift :D It doesn't have a/c or power steering :( ,but it'll do.
Anybody got any ideas about what could be the problem, besides the ones mentioned or the ecm, could be? We need HELP! Anybody got any parts numbers on an 89? Or...parts,perhaps,that you would ship to USA (Ky)?
What about this charcol canister? What is it's purpose? Should it be changed and where do I get one? How much are them things???

Sounds most likely that the throttle position sensor is either bad, or not adjusted properly. It could be the Idle air control, but it wouldn't idle right, but would run fine when you got it going. As far as the hissing, try some carb cleaner with the engine running, and spray it around the intake, and vacum hoses and see if the engine runs higher. That's where the leak will be. You shouldn't need a charcoal canister, it's for emissions anyway. About the smoke, try a PCV valve, if it's an 8 valve engine, which it should be as it's an '89, then I would definetly change the PCV valve, and try to clean the ports.

Hope this helps, Bryan

BTW, here's my AIM incase you need some help, or quick answers
