I guess some poeple are still in the Dark a little regarding vehicle classification at SuziCan. Nothing is usually cast in stone and there are always some grey areas becasue you can't nail every mod down under one class. there is always a little overlap between classes. But lets try to clear it up and get a little closer to a formula.

Stock: any truck that is stock, including a body lift and up to 31" tires. NO lockers , gears, or suspension mods.

Modified class: any truck with some or all of the following mods; gearing, lockers, suspension mods and tires up to 35"

Super Modified: any truck that has extensive suspension mods, gearing, t-case gearing, added suspension articulation devices, lockers, and 35" plus tires. And MUST have full roll cage ( minimum 6 point) .

You can see where there could be some problems. Fee free to add your ideas.

Hey mudd, I guess that means welded in the rear and 462's put me into modified class for next year.
I am still on 31's but does spring over count as a body lift?

SPOA and lifted springs both put you into the Modified class. So should the lockers ;-)

That seems fairly straightforward to me.

You have a locker? You're modified. You have 36" tires on open diffs? Still modified.

I don't know too many stock trucks out there that can handle a 32"+ tire size. So that limitation makes a lot of sense. However, I can see how a truck with 36's on open diffs can be less capable then a truck with 32's and a pair of lockers.

I suppose judgement calls aren't out of the question in that case. The event seems to be run with a fairly laid back attitude, more focused on fun and safety, opposed to measuring tire size to the millimeter. :P

I would say put together a short list of people who have mucho wheeling experience, and have 3 judges to make the decisions. In a case where a ruling would be necessary to define a class for a truck, this only seems fair to me.

pretty clear to me.
I think you may need to add a class in there somewhere. or everone without a cage is basicaly modified, i think there is too much weight put or tire size so lets not consider that. two lockers, good skidplating and an experienced drive would take you further thatn open open with 33's and an novice driver.
Some consideration should also be make for damage people are willing to accept.

maybe we could rate the trails and obsticals and judge if a truck is suitable. simmilar to zookmelt

class 1
suitable for stock trucks
Easily negotiated with a 4WD stock vehicle on street tires.
Vehicle damage is unlikely.

class 2
suitable for mildly built truck and newer drivers
Aggressive tires and rear locker are highly recommended.
Vehicle damage could occur, mainly to the body.

class 3
Aggressive tires and rear locker are REQUIRED.
Vehicle body damage likely.

class 4
Aggressive 32"+ tires, and front and rear lockers are REQUIRED.
a winch is highly recommended.
Vehicle body and drive train damage likely.

class 5 (for the insane)
Aggressive 32"+ tires, front and rear locker, winch,
recovery equipment, and a full safety cage are REQUIRED.
Count on vehicle body and drive train damage.

I know that this is more classes then trail runs but you could easly assign a class to an obstical. if you are a lower class then take the bypass. if there is no bypass or winch avalible for that trail then you have te meet the minimum requirements for that trail. i know at suzican most obsticals could be winched so if you have your own winch you could bump youself up a class with the exception of class 5 where you need a cage.

I think there will still need to be decisions made in the feild.
Also I feel that there should me more of a tech inspection upon regestration.
you can have scary stuff and say that you truck is up to par.
I see to recall that bastard that stole my clevis after starting the run with a badly bent drag link. hey at least im only out a clevis. others were burned for more.

If you truck does not pass teck inspection for that class then get a ride or run with the lower class.

hell i'll start on my 6 point cage made of mufler pipe right now......... :yike

I'm in a different class as well, but it is easier to match the given rules to accomodate your rules than it is to make new ones so i'll be entered as super modified with a 6 point cage to the frame.

Sorry Gearhead i meant instead of all my mods without a cage, i will just go ahead and install one, to match the rules already given instead of making an exception for me and another class.
I do meet all of the super mods rules except for the cage and i would hate that bieng my limiting factor from some of the good obstacles.
