1984 Sj 410, Tin Top (did they come in anything else?). Looks like a 1 litre motor, definatly not a 1.3..., 4 speed. Overall the truck is in OK shape, kicked the passenger side rocker and my SANDLE went through, pulled the passenger side carpet back and poked my finger through. This I assume is normal on this age of truck. The motor fired up fine, no blue smoke and sounds a fawk of a lot stronger then my 1.6 'Kick. The whole truck needs some TLC and body work, but it looks to be very mechanically fit (although I couldn't take it for a test drive).
The guy is asking $700, I was thinking more of $350. What's a SJ go for these days?

Terry before buying this truck make sure the original t-case is still on the truck (84 t-cases are worth good $$$) they did come convertable as wel... rust and rot in definatly normal for SJ's, the question is: is it repairable? how bad is it?

P.S. If it has a 4 speed, it's a 1.0L engine

Hi,
Just to let you know that if you decide to swap the engine, the location of the engine mounts on the frame ARE different than the ones on the 1.3. May need to cut and weld new mounts. As Suzicrazy said, the tcase is worth more $$ because it have a lower 4L as well as lower 2H(1.58 instead of 1.41).
I have my sj410 and the engine was great. Revs all day at 5000rpm on the highway and starts right up at -40. Never had any problems at all except for the fuel pump. Definetly get an electric pump instead of the factory mechanical pump. I brought a brand new mech. pump from the dealer and it failed within one week.
What size tires are you planning to run? I am running 30" tires and I can blow the front birfields on demand, even without a front locker. Unless you upgrade to the short/big shaft(getting rare) or swapping to regular wide samurai axles, parts are getting hard to find. If you are not going big, I will definely consider it since they are even lighter than a 1.3 Samurai by almost 200lbs.
Hope this helps!!

If I bought it one of 2 things would happen to it....
1. it's become my new off road truck, on at least 35's with sami running gear.
or...
2. I'd sell it to someone who'd do such a thing to it.
:D

I'd think it is the original case, as the whole truck looks completly original. It does have the t-case mounted e-brake, does that help?
As for the rust, rockers are gone, passenger floor is gone, rear floor looked good, 1 wiper mount has been "patched" (with silicone I think).
It does have a 4 speed so that confirms the 1 litre motor, it looks like a very simple motor to work on. We ran it for about 5 minutes, didn't blow any smoke when it started. Checked inside the oil cap and there's no sludge or anything in there, no oil leaks on the motor either. Under the hood looks like it's been taken care of.
So, again, what's it worth???

Sidekick nut, is this the one in Cobourg? If so, contact me, I can get a better deal for you.

Sorry didn't answer your question last time.
Yeah, $700 seemed a bit too high....
The tcase sounds like the good one because of the drum brake.

The swap from 1L to a 1.3L.....ahh the memories. This is what you will run into

The engine mounts to not match up, the pass side goes back one inch and the Driver side goes forward 6 inches (give or take a C hair)

The intermediate shaft is to long, you will need a Sammy one...measure this before you finalize your engine mounts...trust me.

The SJ D shafts are small yes small....S, M ALL. You will need to update to Sammy Shafts unless you want to change U joints all the time...

Everything else is pretty much disco to do, easy easy.

However the 1L is way easy to do a dual Tranny set up on if you have the time and smarts to do it...the tranny input shaft splines are the same as the output spline if ya catch my drift.

Also the 1L is way more durable in my mind...I reved the snot out of mine all the time...I am talking valve float for hours and it never broke....I don't know why I switched.

Terry, I'd offer $400 for it...see what happens, it's hard to give you a straight answer without pics or seeing the truck. But you can sell the engine for a hundred or two and sell the t-case for atleast two (easy sell)... so for $400 you can't go wrong.. ;)

Well, we decided not to make the investment, if anyone wants it, it's located in Trenton, right on the main drag just west of McDonalds on the south side of the road.
Here's some pics:

If you want the phone number let me know and I'll call my buddy who has it written down.

That's not the one in Cobourg... That one has a great body compared to the cobourg sammy I was talking about... Looks like it's in pretty decent shape.

If anyone is interested in the Cobourg one, it's on Division St just north of University... West side

LOL, the address and number is on the sign in the second pic. There is one for sale around here. It's an sj410 in just a lil better shape than that one. Runs good and easly certifieable for 800$
