Hey guys!
I've been looking for a cheap tracker / sidekick to get me started. Finaly landed a 92 Asuna Sunrunner. Only draw back.. .it's auto. *sniff... *
It has a cracked windshield. I'm going to need to replace that to get the safety done.
Does the auto tranny really use GEAR OIL???? (I was reading that in the tech forum here). I just want to confirm this. and what grade should I use?
And finaly, what modifications should i start with for some fun offroading while still being able to use the truck on the road? What are some common little fixes I should do or have done when I get it?
Thanks!
Eric

Never heard about gear oil in the tranny but autos do have the advantage of having 4.62 diff gears, standards have 5.12, so swapping in some standard diffs will give you a cheap gear reduction. If you've got some money, a calmini 2 or 3" suspension lift + 2" body + 31's and a locker would be sweet. If you're budget is more like mine, coil spacers and hockey puck body lift, some old 31's or at least 235's and weld the rear.

here is the info i got from this site (main page, tech area)
Recommended Lubricants
Engine Oil................................. API grade SF/CC SF/CD multigrade oil
Manual transmission fluid............. API GL-5 SAE 75W-90 or 80W-90 gear oil
Automatic transmission fluid......... API GL-5 SAE 75W-90 or 80W-90 gear oil
Transfer case lubricant............... API GL-5 SAE 75W-90 or 80W-90 gear oil
Front axle lubricant.................... API GL-5 SAE 75W-90 or 80W-90 gear oil
Rear axle lubricant..................... API GL-5 SAE 75W-90 or 80W-90 gear oil
Power steering fluid................... Dexron II or III automatic transmission fluid
Brake fluid............................... DOT 3 brake fluid
this is the part that scares me:
Automatic transmission fluid......... API GL-5 SAE 75W-90 or 80W-90 gear oil
Anyone in the Ottawa area care to help me lift my tracker? :)
Cheers!

I guess someone actually uses the tech section and reads!!!!. YOU have found an error in the Zookpower site! Anyway you have to use Automatic transmission fluid in these things and it must be dextron III.

Eric, grab about 90$ and I can do a 3" body lift with ya :) I'd do 4" like mine if you beg but its a bit of a bitch for the shifter extension and such but works great. I'm running 31's with just that, no fender trimming required! I'd prefer to do it at your place tho. I'll give you all the specs, you get parts ready(caus I'm NOT cutting 3"*4" metal blocks BY HAND again!!!!!!!!!! You get them pre-cut, drill them and I'll drop by and lift it with you. Then we'll weld your shifters and worse case scenario, have to weld your steering too(I didn't have to do that). I was done in a day (including doing 11 cuts by hand, near 20-25mins each(I'm slow).

start combing the junk yards for some old 15" FordF150 4x4 rims (usually available) they have the same bolt spacing and opening for the front hubs. Get some 31x10.5r15 tires; Chaparrals (made by Cooper) are about $140 each and Canadian tire brand RoughRider are ~$160 each and BFG All Terrains will run you about $170-$180 each. I have bought tires used before, but this size can be tough to find sometimes. I think there was a set in the last ISell... (if you want to get started, I will be taking off a set of 4 goodyear wranglers you can have for free, not much tread on them, but what do you want for free :argue: )
Do the cheap body lift, and ditch all the crap(plastic bumpers, seats, carpet...) you can to save weight, your going to need the performance :D
