I have a 1992 tracker 4x4 it has a real problem with cold weather it cusses and fusses everytime if it stalls I have to floor it to start...I read your threads and couldn't find anything related..I just tuned it up 3 months ago and changed everything including timing belt(I also checked to see if the crank pulley was loose it's not)when it gets warm it seems to run pretty good but the fuel mileage sucks..I thought maybe it was the t.p.s. or auto choke but does the t.p.s. control the autochoke or is it the other way around ?I have the timing set @ about 8 degrees advanced...any help would be appreciated

When you timed it did you jump out the terminals in the wiring harness under the hood?
There is a little black cover on a plug ( drives or pass i cannot remember) that goes no where. Ah ha i think it is up behind the map sensor in the firewall area or down the passanger side fender area. You have to jump two of the terminals ( depot remembers) this turns of the timing advance which re-adjusts when you move the dist, when it is not jumped out.
So as it sits you probally adjusted your dist way off (even though your light says correct) which is causing you this grief.
Did you put a mark in the dist housing and cap before you turned the dist the first time? If you did try and get it back on these marks and it should run a little better for starters.

I'll have to try that the lead is on the passenger side...I was talking to the wrecker guy @ cathcart auto he was telling me that they have a problem with the throttle body on that year its the first time I ve heard that....when I did my timing belt I marked everything, I did not move the distributor at all until after the thing started running like crap and even then I marked the original position..
I will try that trick this weekend and see if it works I'm going to see if I can get another throttle body as well just in case...Hey thanks again....

Let us know what you find? I'd like to know what could be in ther TBI that can go wrong?
Fuel injector gets dirty? Make it run like Garbage. and the TPS was messed with which will also make it run like dirt. This is the only thing that can go wrong in there, which is why people just swap in the whole TBI, But before you do that still try and get the timing set first, with the connector jumping thing.
Even though the injector and the TPS are in the same connector plug you can still pull the injector seperate from the TPS. you need a very tiny flathead screw driver or even a small nail to push down on the tab inside the connector to release the wires.
Not applicable to you right now but god to know.

I am DAAAA....I figured out what I did wrong...see men can admit when we make a mistake....when the crank gear spun the keyway I replaced the keyway and gear put #1 to top dead center and here's where I screwed up it was on an exhaust stroke..... so I was 180*out...I have run this way for 2 months...shows how good the engines are....anyway when I got it back together it ran better than it did when I got it 8 mths ago.....well thanks everyone for the info....boy they sure can go through just about anything I was jumping snowbanks with it once I got it running right...talk to everyone soon....Timbo :D :D :D
