Lets give this a go. Put up all the basic info here of the LJ. This is probably the least known of all our beloved Zooks. If you have any tech to add, please do so. Post links to whatever helps us out. Lets stick to documented facts , not assumptions. Who knows this LJ crap? Give us what you got!

PS... this thread will be a sticky and maybe edited for simplicity. Bullshit will be deleted.

Okay... I've got a bunch of LJ80's (sitting in a field far, far away...),and at home I have an actual LJ80 factory service manual, and an owners manual. (none of the LJ's are for sale at the moment, most are parts trucks, and I'm going to put together a couple of LJ's from the best of them...)
I'll try and answer any questions I can...

Good research Sarg :)

Just a couple of minor updates to the LJ80 stats:

1) There was another model LJ80 (for 1981, in Canada, at least) called "LJ80Q". It was essentially a soft-top LJ80 but with metal doors.

2) Regarding the top speed, I've driven my 1981 LJ80 up to ~110Kmph on flat highway, roof off, and windscreen down. Granted, that was the speedo reading with 30" tires (versus the stock 27" tires), so my actual speed would have been ~10% higher than indicated. (I'll have to try it again with my GPS and report back!) BTW, it did take quite a few seconds to reach that speed. :)

For your top speed, i have often heard of this, but with SJ 4.10 gearing ( as the chunks are the same) as opposed to the standard LJ gearing, is this possible in your rig??

My rig is all original expect for wheels/tires, shackles, bumpers, floormats, and seatcovers. (I know this because I am the original owner).

I just returned from back-to-back runs between two interchanges on the 401, that are ~2km apart.

Westbound top speed indicated = 92 kph
Westbound top speed on GPS = 98 kph

Eastbound top speed indicated = 95 kph
Eastbound top speed on GPS = 101 kph

Average top speed indicated = 93.5 kph
Average top speed on GPS = 99.5 kph

That's less than I boasted in my earlier post, but then I haven't had it tuned up for a couple of years ;)

Your're case is from an LJ80. I don't think the year matters.

A few corrections to the above info:

All LJ engines were designed and built by Suzuki; none were made by Mitsubishi.

LJ10 had 27hp, not 21. The ON360 had a 21hp, 356cc engine, that may have been built by Mitsubishi, but Suzuki used their own engines.

There is no LJ40; the L40 used the same engine with the LJ10 (designated FB), and the L50 and LJ20 used the same engine (L50 designation)

LJ10 and L40 series were built from 1970-71, LJ20 & L50 from 1972-73 (some were sold late enough to be registered as '74's, the LJ50 went from 1974-1978, though in some countries it continued as the SJ10 longer, and the LJ80 was produced from 1977-1981.

All LJ's had a 76" wheelbase, except the LJ81 pickup.

Hardtops (LJ20v, LJ50v, had smaller tires (5.60x15 vs. 6.00x16), and t-case gearing was higher (1.562 hi range, 2.571 low)

I know of only one LJ50 in North America; it is located on Vancouver Island. We did have one person at this year's LJ meet with an LJ50 engine in his LJ20 though; it's the only one I've seen in person.

LJ10's and LJ20's had 5.667 axle gears, giving them a crawl ratio of 68:1 with stock gears! With the high revving 2 stroke, this was needed of course!

More info, including nearly all of the owners, parts, and service manuals, is at www.lj10.com. The LJ80 Parts Manual is not posted, as it is still available directly through Suzuki.
