View Full Version : So, lets talk frame mounted pivots

I was thinking about a pivot that splits your truck in half for articulation. Yes I have seen the ones on pirate but I have an addition. If the pivot is allowed to swing freely the pivot will render your rear suspension basically useless and the ride over rough terrain will suck. But if you were to add a small set of coil overs with a sprng rate set slightly higher than your leafs you would be able to use up the flex in your leafs before your pivot would begin to twist which would allow for some pretty sick frame twist and articulation

What do you think? Comments please!!

You need to talk to Uncle Don, he was on about this type of stuff a while ago, as well as adding a bunch of hydraulics into the equation.

If I remember correct, that rig spent much of its virgin run laying on its side. Problem with Hydrolics is the speed it takes to rebound. For example, you come off an obsticle with a wheel raised high in the air and you suddenly need that wheel on the ground to ballance the rig. all of a sudden the rig is rolling around on its side.

Comes to a point where enough is enough. Why take all the fun out of wheeling. just being able to do an obsticle is more fun than walking over it.

I built Mud Lite for Tellico and paragon.
I built FrankenZuk for local trails.

Engineering is fun, but lets not loose site of what this sport is about.......................wheeling!!!!!!!!!

Thats why Im not into rear steer (although it is cool) and independent airbags and cutting brakes. You turn from 'Driver' to 'Operator'. Gimme a steering wheel and some pedals, shifter or no shifter and drive the POS. Geez, when it gets to that point your just building a fancy skidder. Not my idea of 'wheelin'. By the way, I remember Geiger sayin about the transformer... "he claims it weighs in at around 5500lbs, I see 7 - 8000 lbs there" You guys know me, Im all for light weight.

Don't get me wrong here, I would never build that thing I just thought it was a really cool piece of "Hey bubba I gots some beer and parts, go git ur welder".

The difference between driver and operator in the high dollar rock crawling world is about as thin as (who to pick on)...as thin as The Sarges pee pee (thats what Mughog says anyway) but in the real world (for lack of a better term) of wheeling where the local hill, bog or swamp is all you're really building your truck to traverse building something like that is basically an "i'm bored out of my mind and I have tons of time and cash" prospect...

Still cool though..... I was just looking for a reaction from those who may not have seen it.

Just think though, how long before that rig gets all the bugs worked out...

This is more my speed

Good one!!!! I like that. Al of a sudden your passenger has things to do like play with the rear stear or air suspension ...Bwahahahahahaha!!!!!!

K.I.S.S. Keep it simple stupid!!!!!
