I am currently looking at options for relocating SuziCan and possibly changing each year and rotating east and west from Montreal to South Western Ontario. For next year the plan is to have it in Chertsey Quebec. ( 30 minutes north of Montreal) They have a vast trail system set up there and no need for capture the flag and large groups running trails. It easily handles 50-100 trucks.

How many people would still go if the venu was changed?

Sorry, but too far.
5 hours is enough of a drive right now.
been to all four but a drive to montreal and then north is out of the question.

something to the west i would be interesting but if i drive further east i might save my gas money and make a trip to the USA and hit zookmelt

Quebec is alot like heep owners. you meet some good and some bad. Driving a car it takes 6 hours to montreal and then add 45 mins north of that while towing a trailer kinda sucks in my books. Not to mention it would be the beginning and end of a long weekend therefore i look forward to another two to three hours in traffic. X2

Not appealing to me.

Takes me only bout an hour or so less to goto sudbury then calabogie, as far as im concerned there's no comparison, the drive is waaaayyyy better, and the trails, in my opinion far supercede anything at calabogie.

I think the last thing that greens needs is alot of rigs going there for a long weekend event. I'm sure that we could get permission based on mudlites previous encounters with the MNR but it's nasty for stock rigs and even though it's short it could get real long fast if there is any carnage.

I vote up by Mudds place with the gravel pit for camping etc... Mudd has a trail picked out that we all could run with the super mod guys bieng a little bored but hey it'll be fun anyway when we find places to play while waiting for others to catch up. Maybe one group run the way we did last sept and the super mods run it backwards.

The second day would consist of a capture the flag on the hydro line that we did last sept lots of mild to wild there and then the third day could take a bunch of spectators and the serious hardcore do or die kinda folk and crawl/smash and bang thier way up depots crack.

For this obstacle i would suggest running it so that you have to go down ( each side) of the crack and then drive up. this way if you wanna go and check things out you can hide your vehicles at the top while it only takes a second to drive down and turn around. I say this to keep the attention of the onlookers from the highway.

another option would be to drive the trail we came out where we had the two big walls of rock on either side. ( mudd should know what i'm talking about)

The only problem would be setting things up with the MNR for permits and such. It may take some extra work on mudlites part but maps and pics may help.

I belive that this destination is very central for most of the people that attend. It's about 4-5 hours towing a trailer with traffic included from T.O
Not sure what it is from Ottowa but may be less cause it's straight across 17 i think.

If you need extra help ML i would be glad to do what i can scoping wise as i will be there may 24 next year. I could also dig up some TOPO maps and mail em to you and show a route etc... whatever i can do i will do.

Thats my 4 cents casue the price of fuel is high.

And Sudbury is about 5 hrs from Ottowa as well.

Grumpy
October 7th, 2005, 06:57 AM
For us, if it's close I can bring both trucks, if it's far like Sudbury I can only bring one, but it really doesn't matter to me, and if the wife complains enough, I'll just have to get busy building a trailer for two and get the new tow rig as well!! (or I could always borrow my buddy's tilt and load for the trip) My final word is that we SHOULD get away from Calabogie, change of scenery would be great!

Capture the flag WAS an option.... u had the option of "competing" or just goin out with ur team and havin fun. it sounds like u missunderstood that part and its too bad. I presonally know quite a few ppl that did the run without trying to kill their rigs for a trinket but instead decided to do the obstacles they wanted and watched the rest. Ardbeg would be a blast.
Yes camping is an issue since the 2km camping ban took affect, if you don't need to trailer in there there is lots of camping outside the ban area.
Also there are a number of campgrounds and cottage to rent.

Also talking to the owner of the store in ardbeg she mentioned primative camping on her property. Also trucks and trailers can be parked at the store fora very small fee. Sometimes free if you keep coming back to buy your ice and stuff there.

I'm up there quite a bit in the summer and could scout out some sutable camping areas.

I would need to know the number of trails in the area, if 50 trucks can camp close to eacg other, if there is enough to do for 3 days of wheeling for 50 trucks, and if there is a range of trails from easy to extreme.

I am open to options , but need imput from the different areas. Who is in the Bancroft area that can let me know what is there?

there is lost of trails in ardbeg, from stock to wild.
There is lost of rock close to the main camp to play on and everthing is pretty clost together. Also it is possible to run from the south end off hwy 124 north to ardbeg. This would take all day with large group stopping to play.

Any thoughts of making it a non-long weekend?? then we could use the main camp area, people would just have to take some time off.

I'll post some maps and pics of the area.

I have never attended Suzican due to the fact I don't own the required vehicle type, however I belive that ardbeg would be a great place to hold your event. I have been to ardbeg when there were more then 100 trucks present and there was no lack of space or trails to accomadate everyone. (that was some time ago, 1989-90 type time frame. there haven't been that many trucks there for a long time)

There is no shortage of trails there, you would be hard pressed to do them all in one weekend. Just going from blacklake to the far north end of the trail is an acomplishment, and there is still all the trail from blacklake south to hwy124.

In my opinion Ardbeg would be an exelent location for your event. Trails very from stockable to nearly unpassable by a high $$$ buggy so everyone would be able to have a great time.

Hi Bigzook69,
glad to see your last post that you have decided not to let other people's competiveness ruin your fun next time.Keep your chin up and even though people may egg you on because they can see that you have a very capable rig, know your limits and don't give in to peer group pressure.
That reminds me of a funny thing that happened to me a few years ago, lets just say it was a life lesson for me.
I was at "the pits" north of Oshawa for the first time ( has just moved there and trying to make a good impression) when about 200 people talked me into taking my Sammy into hole #3.One of the people there was a young guy called Hogan, or Tokin' or Logan or something like that ,LOL (just jokin' bud), anyhow, I gave into peer group pressure that ended up costing me over $200 in fluid changes and almost an engine rebuild. The next time I will think twiceand turn around and go home,,,,,,,,,,,,,ah, no, your right, I won't, I'll put the top on and and gun it !!!!!!
Go, have fun doing what you enjoy, not what everybody tells you to do.

I've heard great things about Calabogie.I plan to get there next season to check it out.My usual wheelin home away from home is Ardbeg, which for those of you who don't know, is about 35 or 40 minutes north east of Parry Sound.I've got a trailer close to there so I get there fairly often. As for the infamous Suzican, it could be held in the furthest regions of the North West Territories and it wouldn't deter me one bit from attending.
