I'v been under my dash wireing shit up and never saw a switch. My check engine light did go on andf it was because my O2 went bad, expensive ****er. I now have about 115000km on mine.

Thanks for the replies! My sammy is currently under construction. With only the rear suspension in(finished today) gotta do my front suspenion lift and various other things to make her road worthy again and legal. I just cant wait to get my custom stainless steel gas tank and get her installed! But there is a sensor light on, on my dash. Can you buy a code scanner for a samurai? i dont feel like replacing every sensor to find out which one is bad. If anyone could tell me why or if its sensor related, when it idles down from warmup it almost cuts out but if i give it a little gas it smooths out..?

In your typical haynes manual it will tell you how to diag your sensor problem. You insert a jumper or (safer a fuse) into the appropriate place on the fuse block. I think it is the one closest to the center (or closest to the shifter ) on the top row of the fuse block under the dash on the drivers side. Then you turn the key to the on position (not starting it!!!!) and it should flash a series of codes to you. For example a Code 12 or a flash then a pause and then flash , flash will be a normal code and everything is ok.
In the event that you have a continual check engine light on it more than likely have stored a code. It will then flash something different. Don't worry if you do not catch it on the first few flashes. it will just flash a code 12 and recycle the rest of the faulty codes again. Or even easier you can disconnect the battery for 30 seconds and then it erases the computer (88.5 and up) and you have no more codes for a bit.:D
I am not too sure if the same applies for a non computerized engine but hey it's worth a shot. You have to be able to diag them as well.
No Depot!!!, not everyone can run with out a dash to eliminte the "check engine" light.

geez buddy, the thought never even crossed my mind. A a last resort, i woulda suggested just pulling the check engine light bulb if sliding that switch didnt take care of it... I pulled my dash to make room for my giraffee legs - nutin to do with instrument cluster... I even had it in there once with my first aluminum dash but got lazy with this one.

but good to see Im still in ur thoughs :pa:
