A 1.0L out of an SJ410 with very minor (all bolt-on) modification, it even bolts up to the transmission.

Other then that you are looking at engine/tranny replacement as well as new mounts.

I have a good SJ410 engine & trans complete rad to tailshaft
bring me some beer or an axle out of a 413 front or rear for spares.
I'm in London

edit
I just saw where you are... this could be tricky

Didn't Chevette motors get swapped in a lot in Canada? Just about any front engine-RWD can be adapted to the divorced tcase. Somedody did a Subaru once - just locked the trans in 4wd and ran the rear output to the tcase. What's around that runs and is cheap :D

I did the chevette engine and trani. Easy Peasy. Heat and bend the chevette engine mounts and they bolt right to the zuk rubber mount. I used the auto trani and had to adapt the intermediate shaft down to one u-joint to fit and not move the t-case. I understand a 4 speed standard works better.

LJ80 tunnels are alot narrower then Sami's i cant see the chevette being simple unless you had a big body lift.

True sarg, mine was a sami, and the auto trani was huge. I put a scissor jack inside the tunnel and cranked away. I even had to bend the gas pedal closer to the brake, but I was able to cut out the clutch pedal. No body lift at all. I'm not sure how big the vette 4 speed is but sure would be smaller than the auto.

I saw a motorcycle mag story with a LJ that had a sideways mounted 80ci Harley engine a few years ago. It was just a photo, not sure how they did it. Weird, but it'd be light and torquey (if not real powerful) and would sound great. No coolling system, a chain drive to the T-case...

I think a 700 two stroke snowmobile triple would be the hot ticket myself...so light and powerful. Maybe it could be mounted sideways so you could use the snomobile clutch to drive the T-case...Run the stinkiest two stroke oil possible just to aggravate the tree huggers too. I have a friend who built a street licensed (if not totally legal...) kit car with one of those engines and infinitely variable snomobile clutches...it's SOOOOO fast! Still, I think I need more sleep...

If you delete the tranny and use the belt drive (or even make it gear) to run the tcase u will have no reverse, and if use a triple yer gunna float the centre cyl, even in cold weather they have a bad habit of it., a 700 cc triple makes a 400 pound sled go vroom but it wouldnt in a 1400 truck.

Yeah. My buddies kit car has reverse-the ignition timing changes on some sleds and make the engine run backwards (I know it sounds crazy but thats how they do it) and it works pretty well. Don't know about center cyl, guess it depends on engine-I think the yamaha triple/triples were pretty good this way, center cyl carb jetted richer to help it run a bit cooler than the outside cylinders. I'll find out. Sarge is right though-it is a crazy idea. Still, 120 hp is 120 hp...and the engine is small and light. Just the expansion chamber pipes take up a ton of room. I do need more sleep and less beer.

Dont forget the LJ10, LJ20, and LJ50's came with 2 strokes. The most bang fer yer buck in an LJ is no diff then with a sami, the 1.6 16v, you'd light up the tires in every gear.

I've read lots about the early 2-stroke 380cc 'zooks. I'd love to have one, just for the freak factor! Plus, what could possibly be easier to maintain than an old school pre-power valve, pre-reed valve, low power, low rpm
two-stroke? Oil in gas and go. I wonder if any of those things are still running and streetable in North America? In my weirdo world one of those old 'smokers could make the ultimate jungle buggy...However in the real world that 'kick 1.6L coversion Sarge talked about is a way better, more PC, and much more realistic option. BTW I'm already out of beer and starting to dry out nicely. That sucks.

Actually LiL_Beast from this site drove his 1972 2 stroke LJ20 7 hours each way to suzican last year, next time i think i'll lead, i was coughin up and sweating oil for a week after lol. There is quite a group of us LJ owners and they have an annual meet for the ones in north america every year, quite a few are the 2 strokes as well.

Even though I'm driving a 'kick I would love to go just to wander around a look at some of these rigs! I find the whole two-stroke 'zook thing (also Trabant's and old Saab) fascinating!

Oh yeah, should mention that in my Suzuki motocross bike I have been using amsoil two stroke oil, pre-mixed at 300ml to 20L. No visable smoke (it actually smells nice!)and after a teardown last fall I found no measurable wear on piston, rings, bore, crank bearings, rod bearings, or goop in the powervalve. The bike is a 125 that gets reamed at 12,000rpm all day long too. The stuff works magic, but Amsoil can be a huge pain in the ass to buy 'cause the guys who sell it are always trying to rope you into selling it too. Anyway, Amsoil might help some 'smoker LJ guys who want to be a little more PC.

There is some other kind of synthetic two-stroke oil called Ipone that smells like strawberries out the exhaust. Don't know how it works, but it smells great if maybe even a bit too sweet. Or better yet go the old school route and use stinky old Castrol-R bean oil..., not because it works that great but simply to maximize the nature-nazi and tailgater-aggravation factor...

Whats the date of the LJ meet and location again, or where do I find the info?
Thanks

Looks like 2 this year, the Northwest meet is in Liberty WA, date to be determined, and the MidWest meet has yet to be determined for time and place.

Regardless on anything plan on going to Suzican this year, there's everything Suzuki there.

Suzican sounds like fun. I'll keep checking for dates and locations. Thanks
