Yeah, well it is official, I am the only person posting stuff in here. Look down the list it's all "mars_man"!

LOL

So will I kill myself? Last year I ran 30X9.5's all winter long and in my opinion it was fine. 2WD was pretty useless, but I get to school in 4X4.

I have open diffs.

I am thinking of keeping my 31's on. Anyone here ran that big a tire in the winter. You survive? Did you find a approx tire pressure that worked best for winter driving?

Later.

I ran BFG Muds 33x12.5 and decided to try them out in the winter...I'm locked in the rear and was going nowhere in 2WD, slapped it in 4wd and started heading for the highway... what a mistake, I tried to stop at a stop light, by the time I actually stoped I had crossed the light ass end first! NO I don't recommed it, but will I try it again.... HELL YA!

First year I had my zook it had goodyear TDS all terrains on it. I ran 12 psi in the rear, about 18 up front. It actually hooked up good. Then I bought some 31" Cooper STT Discoverers M/T's and boy oh boy, first donut happened when I was leaving the tire shop parking lot. If you have all terrains, deflate and off you go.

last winter/spring my sx/bogger combo was real bad on snow roads and almost as bad on the skidoo trails ... i had to air down to about 3 pounds to get any traction ... i went through a few stop signs and even ended up on someones front yard knocking on the the door ...

against it? NAHHHH I love boggers in snow at highway speeds :ev: :ev:

TSL' s have a lot more rubber on the road than boggers, and they are narrower - u should be ok.. not great but ok - besides, being in the city, how often do we really have snow on the ground that we have to drive through? I'd prolly try em out at around 20 psi and see how they feel

BFG AT's and General Grabber AP's are some of the best snow tires going. Now to decide what to put on... My kick has 31" BFG ATs at about 30% up front, and Geolander MT's with about 30% in the back. It has astounding traction as is, so it makes for a difficult decision. By all means keep the 31's, but I dunno if I should get a pair of MTRs, BFG MT, BFG AT, Big O XT, new Yoki's, or what for the rear. THe AT's up front are great on the road, so I think I'll keep them, or maybe replace them with fresh ones. locked with wide tires is a blast, don't let anyone tell you different. Its the only chance you'll get to drive this thing sideways :D

Does the width contribute to the problems, or is it just the MT tread? I would think the more contact patch the better, thus wider being preferable to narrower in any given tread type- especially in deep snow (wide tires would keep you from sinking so bad I would think?). IE: if you had a nice AT with lots of siping or even full blown snow tires, wouldn't the wider snow tire give you better traction in snow than a narrower snow tire? I've never experimented to see, so am curious regarding the results of any of you who have.

Thanks in advance.

the narrow tire will work better on the street or roads, and the wider tire will work better in really deep snow or trails, they will float better and not dig too deep.
on the street , you want to get traction, so the tire digging , being narrow ,with lots of sipping will work the best, and you can still have fun with them with a little throttle here and there.
this is just my opinion of what i have gone through and used before.

I'm going to try running a set of the motomaster snows this year, in 31 x 9.5 on the stock width rims.

If they work as well on the sammi as they did on my old pickup truck this winter should be a breeze.
