sammy axels in sj410 housing?

yo, just wondering if anyone has ever put sammy axels in an sj410 housing? was wondering if you could swap the side gears from a sammy diff to the smaller sj diff and then use 85' sammy axels. as far as i know, 85 are the same length but the sj axels are smaller, and i assume less spline count, maybe the larger birf won't even fit in the housing, anyone know?
i would like to keep the SJ high clearance diffs with the 4.10 ratio but i've heard the axels are weak. i'll be running 31's with probably a welded rear.

early 85 short axles are tough to find, pretty rare creature these days. I doubt the benefit will be worth the bother. 410 axles are more plentiful if you think your gonna need spares. I'd go with the wider 85.5 and up Samurai axles if it were me. They're cheap and easy to find, plus less work than Toys.

But to answer your question, I'm not sure if that's all that's involved (side gears). If the birf is any bigger, you may need the knuckles from the 413 too.

actually i've got a full set of 85 front and rear axel shafts, but yeah, i'de be without spares. if i decide to go the 86'+ sammy axel route, i'm thinking 4.62's - kick aluminum in the front and build another hybrid for the rear, would add some weight back there too (this is for the pickup). it's just that those sj axels have alot of clearance with the small 31" tire, and 4.62 may be a bit low for the road.
kick 1.6 - kick 5 speed - 83' sj case - 4.10 or 4.62, hmm hard decision. i might just run the sj axels until i break something and get pissed off.

you must have changed the side gears didn't you? or have i been wrong all these years and sj axels are the same size as sammys.

For what it's worth last week i insalled a lock-rite in my 88.5 Sammy and my buddy wanted to install one in his 1983 SJ410 so we dit it together and while they were both appart he slid his SJ410 rear side gear on my 88.5 Sammy rear axel.
The thing that i noticed when both diffs were on the bench is that the SJ410 has way smaller side gears and carier than the 88.5 Samurai.
My locker came with side gears and his did not, the part # for his SJ410 rear locker is the same part # for the 88.5 Samurai FRONT locker.
Why the diference? beats me i never had a front diff apart to see.
