Lookin for ideas...

88.5 Sami won't idle :bang: . it has the stock 1.3. The engine will run when assisted by skinny pedal but not solo.. :bawl:

Have changed carb, changed fuel pump (also ran directly from jerry can so lines or tank are not the issue), changed ignition coil, changed Dist. cap (has new cap and wires anyway), checked and rechecked timing, adjusted to no end the idle control screw, basic check for vaccuum leaks was done.. Compression test to come soon.. :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

Anybody have any ideas?? :ale:

I had a similar problem many moons ago.
Try having someone apply a little peddle while you spray carb cleaner down the carb.
it could be as simple as a clogged carb!

Just my two cents!

PS is the choke seized closed??
Spray with Wd4o....

We have tried 2 known good carbs on it and both give the same problem.. Choke is working and the carb is clean... :bang: Thanks though

Ya we did that too, we change the box all together and checked all the wires leading to it. I'm starting to think it's an internal issue (engine it's self) we'll know after the compression test

does your card have a fuel shut-off selenoid? my 85 did and the truck will not idle if this is not getting power or if the valve is pluged. It it was on the side of my carb with on wire attached to it.
Did you try a non coumputized carb?

I have the factory service manual for an 86.
If you like I can scan the related pages and create a PDF file for you.

Another question for you. You say it doesn't idle??
Prior to this (when it ran) did it "diesel" when shut off??

This would be caused by the fuel cut solenoid as another poster suggested.

It apparently ran prior to me owning it, but i got it in a few pieces. It has never "Dieseled" though, always shut off clean.

I alerady have the pages for my carb but thanks anyway, will wait and see what the compression brings......
