well, as im sure most of u have heard by now, another group of us are going to hit the forest loop tommorow and put some rumours to rest.

I spend my day today swaping out my old busted up rear leafs and stuffed some rebuild packs WITH military wraps back in.. adjusted everything up and blessed it twice! then 4 fun I wleded in the stock suzuki "jezus" bar onto my rollcage for my trooper passanger Turtle. (he kept asking where to put his arms when i roll so I built him a spot). Then silly me.. i decided to look at my truck - what a mistake!!!! it seemed as if the rear tires were angled in just a tad at the top - nah.. that couldnt be.. after all, these were toy axels!!! Did I say a bit? my bad... A LOT! yessiree... Depot bent his rear housing up! there is over 2 inches difference between the width a top the tire and a bottom it. One might think I was a rice burner but alas, this warpage was not intentional.

After wiping the tears away, it was decided between the 3 of us.. me.. myself, and I.. that we're still going to go hit the forest loop trail in the morning! And with a welded rear end.. even if i blow one side to next friday, i was gonna get through it somehow, i proceeded to add one more modification. Some call it a bush bar - and yes it does look like one but its only purpose it to protect my engine for when I do yet another ENDOVER tommorow!!!

u heard it here first.. Depot's unnamed machine (even though I'm leaning heavily towards lurch) is gonna make the forest loop or die trying tommorow!

pictures to follow... anyone who wants to come...

were gonna be at the Tim Hortons in Bob caygeon and i dont care how u speal it.. at 8 am tommrow..

Gl and see yah in my next life

That trail rocks!!!!! shorter but mucho harder than greens!! i dunno if we came in the right way but when we found it, we figureed we had 2 options to get into the fun area.. go down slick rock or try coming down the rock path... for those of u that dont know.. slick rock is basically a long hill of smooth rock with loose dirt and leaves and stuff all over it. it was soo steep and soo slipery that we could barely walk down it, forget about up. after carefully inspecting it, i jumped to be first to sliude down slick rock - now thats a rush. no pics but we do have video.. gimme a few days to get it digitized.

basically, my truck skidded down to the bottom with my rear tires in the air for most of it. needles to say i was the only one to try going down it! i tried going up the hill but it was useless... i'd get about 10-12 feet up with all 4 tires spinning and just slide back. tried a half dozen times and moved on to the rocks. gonna need bead locks and air my tires down a lot more b4 i think of doing that again.

The main rock obstacle going up is no joke. the trail is very loose dirt, lotsa leaves and big loose rocks. very very hard to get traction and once u do get some momentum.. the rcks dictate which way ur truck bounces. i kept getting right up to the big boulder where u have to make a sharp right on the smaller boulder to get up it but just couldnt get my truck in the right positions. Then i came up with the idea of backing up that trail to get my zuk up the other side of the hill so I can hit the smaller boulder on a better angle. i got close a few times but again, just cant steer on this stuff.. truck just slide downhill.

Now dont get me wrong... i didnt break anything nor did I roll it and not for a lack of trying either! Came sooo close a few times but lucked out. My C-channel rear bumper is badly smashed in at the corners, (will tke a pic tommorow) and rear axel is warped a bit more but it's still going. i think we got about 15-20 minuts of video of me just pounding my truck against the big rock at the top - jsut couldnt get the line i wanted.

Lil Beast was next to try that rock and after many a vlaiant attempts he snapped a rear axle - long side.

To give u an idea of how long slick rock is.. i winched him up slick rock - I think my cable is 100 feet - I musta used about 75-80 feet from the top to grab his truck on a strap at the bottom - its a long steep run.

think im gonna slam my 411 welded third in the front and try it again next week or the weekend after.. whos in???

hers a few pics that I do have

Enjoy

Right on!!!! it is an awesome trail i,ve got pics as well from our trip.i tried the slickrock also with a little over the length of the sami up.

Did you come up the second trail in, with the high loop? doug tried the first hill and no go ,it was pouring @ the time.

I think you had the perfect day to run the trail, not nearly as slippery.

Saw u on sat turning onto salmon lake road but i couldnt stop,i was allready late for turkey dinner.

Get your rig fixed up ,i,m in for another run the loop

I really did not want to get wet.

That is a brutal little stretch, we had my sami, a cj5 and a cherokee down there

i went first and if that rock on the right wasnt there i would have rolled for sure,. you need to stay to the left but the shape of the hill wont let you.

The cherokee with its longer and wider wheelbase was able to but barely make it up without the winch.

I just finished off my film so i,ll post pics soon

Thats about as far as i could get with the rain and wet leaves and all. the weber doesnt really like the angles, hence the smoke.

Nice pics indeed but the hill in the last pic is not the hill that depot came down. I think that may be one of the other hills on the way around the backside of the loop. We kinda attempted the 150 slide that leads into it.
Here's a pic of the big one. The pic deos it no justice but you get the idea.

If you look close enough depots truck is at the top. Thats with no zoom on the camera.
Here is one of depot half way down by the tree that you slide into.

Here is another way to describe where it is. Remember Drtysuzuk you came down the rock to get into the "valley of death" and this hill in the pics are just on the right side.

drtysuzuk
October 19th, 2003, 07:26 AM
yes i looked at that hill from top and bottom. The hill i,m on drops you right at the bottom of "mount holy shit thats a big hill", looking straight up.

The smoke lets know you,re working the truck hard. Its from the carb flooding when she gets bouncing. I,ll have the 1.3 16 v in and rareing to go for next spring!

I don't see the Huge rock face we stopped at or anything.

It should be even more chalenging with all the rain we,ve had and there should be lots more leaves on the ground. Be sure to get lots of pics.
