I'm looking into getting a set of Toyota axles... now the thing is I don't know shit about Yota's... I was told to get 79 to 85 axles, but never told what truck, anyhow I have a line on an 84 4Runner, is this what I'm looking for and what gearing does it have? what iss the preffered year and make?

85 is generally the preferred year because of the bigger trussing on the axles.
As far as what truck, the pickup truck and the forerunner have the same axles. Generally speaking, the automatics will have 4.30 ring and pinion gears, while a standard will have either 4.10 or 4.56 (sometimes even 4.11 or 3.90, but rarely). I would sugegst goign with a set from a standard as the 4.10 gears are easier to come by if you ever break a ring and pinion.

Also, you could go with Toyota Landcruiser diffs, but they are significantly more expensive, and are bigger / tougher / heavier..
Hope that helps...

BTW, make sure not to get a 86 or newer pickup or forerunner as they are IFS... therefore not what you need... but the rears will work out of them... also same 8" gear in the rear of them as in the older trucks...

what has to be done to fit the toyota axles under a zook?
Do you have to relocate spring perches, different drive shaft?
Are they the saem bolt pattern, or and differnt rims needed?
do you wave a magic wond and they appear :D

I believe Perches need to be relocated... also, the driveshaft flange I believe needs to be changed. Brake lines should be the same. Different rims are needed, as toyota are 6 bolt and sammy are 5 bolt... any chev 6 bolt or toyota 6 bolt 4x4 rim should work

the pilot hole (center one) on the zuk drive shaft is like 30 or 40 thou smaller than the toyota ones. what that means is that ur drive shaft will not sit centered n the pumpkin flange. but if have an early 80's toy set-up and big flange stuff on ur zuk, the bolt holes are almost 100% identicle.. u can get away with just bolting em up, otherwise u get to clock ur flanges (turn em 45 % and drill 4 new holes). the drive shaft lengths depend on too many factors - jsut gotta wait and see on that.

the brake lins are different from a zuk so hopefully U'll have the flex lines that came with ur front axel...

on a zuk, it goes from a steel line (on the body or frame) to a flex line that goes direct to ur caliper with that circle fitting on the end. on toys it goes steel from body to rubber flex to a mount on the backing plate behind the rotor.. from there it goes back to a short steel line from that mount to the caliper itself. those flex lines are pretty long and are about 25 bucks a piece from uap if memory servers me correct.

the rear takes only one flex line to the rear axel and there is a splitter bolted to the rear axel for left and right rears. if ur zuk has one line going to the rear ur fine, if u have 2, u're gonna have to change ur splitters and/or proportioning valves or replumb the rear axel. all easily done.

I ran the stock master cylinder for years with stock toy brakes - no probs. I ran outta pedal when i did my rear disk conversion. but tahts another story

Mike, depending on what the runner axles are costing you, Wilson has a few sets of axles saved up, you may get a better deal from him.

what's the prefered method for steering solutions when goin to a yota axle? ott, aqualu, other?
and don't say flip and weld, it's illegal around here, and i need to street my rig.

OTT's crossver system comes with a new pitman arm, dropped or strait whatever ur application calls for. Its a new piece, not remaned. for yota steering boxes though (ifs).

My money would go with OTT, they're a great bunch of guys and what i've gotten from them so far has been top notch.
