If you like to keep it snappy as you say, keep the stock gears. The 22R has the balls to turn them. When you get tired of playing in the mud, swap to a lower gear, or better yet go with lower transfercase gears.

The 22R isn't a powerhouse and even under a Sammy, 33s are pretty big for stock 4.10 gears. I would say run the 5.29s. You will be happy in the middle low gears (3rd low range) for most trail/mud riding and that lets you go up or down a gear when you need it. Being overgeared (too low) is bad on the street but being undergeared sucks on the trail.

5.12's are pretty decent for 33's my 4.62's are alittle to steep for my 31's but I hear most use 5.12's with 33's and up.

He has Toyota axles so his choices are 4.88, 5.29 and 5.71s.

ya but that is for a suzuki engine, he is running a toy setup. I'd go 4.56 or 4.88s. If you are planning to eventually run 35 + tires, invest in the 5.29s.
