Well just as I was about to fit it all together the fukn snow started to fall ! Anyways Ive decided to build a small trailer for a job box. It will have a platform 3ft wide X 6.5ft long. It will hold a 'Greenlee' job box and still have room for a 'mechanics chest' type tool box. The trailer tongue will be removable so if ya wanna steal it you'll need your own tongue..... hahaha. The tongue will slide THRU a reciever and sit in another chunk of reciever tubing on the second x-member. Plans are to build 2 tongues. One with a big rise for wheeling and another for just regular towing. The spindles are track/kick (of course) and they have locking hubs (for spares, not 6 wheel drive, unfortunately) Im using 3-pack heavy duty trailer springs and removing the middle leaf so it dont bounce like a basket ball behind my truck. The frame rails are the cool part. I had some 8ft sections of ready rack so I cut them down to 6.5 ft and put the end brackets back on. End brackets are flush the top of the rail with about 3" hangin down so I remounted them flush to the bottom for clearance purposes. Im leaving the end brackets on cuz the trailer will easily transform into a work bench. Now the axle will be carriage mounted and this will let me remove it completely so its not in the way of the 'workbench'. The springs will be mounted to angle iron so the frame rail will sit in the angle and the angle will be mounted to the rails via square u bolts. I'll take pics as soon as I tack it all together but were supposed to get snow tonight and spent alot of time cleanin all the rusty steel, so I'll wait.........

this sounds good.....I always thought about having a small trailer to tow behind a zook, using some of the same ideas(such as spindles wheels etc...,something to tow my stuff in,and also something to sleep in when i get where i'm going.
and before anybody says it --ya some day i'll venture offroad.
Cant wait for the pics.

Pintle style hitch connection, more flex in the middle if ya need it or get bound up.
Long tongue as well, it will help your turning radius....you don't want to back into the corner of the trailer making a really tight reverse turn...
Just some thoughts...
Why is everyone so touchy lately ...jeesh!!

i have built 2 trailers. One is a 4x8 utility trails for my friend. We used a 3500lb axle setup from princess auto becuase it had the same bolt pattern as the J_E_E_P he had at the time , so he could use the spare on his truck if he got a flat.
Noyl thing we did wrong ont hat was was used sqaure tube that wAS too thin for a tounge. We where loading it up with bags of concrete at Rona and the ****in tounge bent right at the point where it contacted the main frame. Kinda funny, they brought out the forklight so we could unhook it from the truck LOL
We fixed that problem with a thick wall 4x4 tube
Second trailer is a 16ft 5000lb car hauler built extra low to get my car on to it. MY car only has 2inchs or less from the ground to the front lip so a conventional car trailer was a pain in the ass. We made a 4ft beaver tail and 8ft ramps. AS long as your bumper clears the 1inch tube used to make the ramp you can get on it without loosing body panels.
Only tip i have is make your tounge stong enough to hold the weight. Makeing triaelrs is easy :)

sorry man... just couldn't help myself.... I do it all the time too... I think as we get older we get more in a rush and then voila... hugo mucho typo...
Good to see that you have a sense of humour.
Tony, I like the idea of a trailer. I always thought it would be neat to cut a sammy tub and make a trailer from that... put it SPOA to match your truck and run the same size tires on the trailer....

Mudslug- Pintle... Like I said, Im making the tongue removable so I can have different tongues depending on what vehicle Im driving, ie: my stock tracker can keep the 2" ball cuz it wont see offroad or the pintle for the LWB. This way anyone could tow it. Tongue will be 4ft long from the front of the trailer. Being only 3ft wide that'll require close to a full jacknife to contact it. With the axle carriage bein adjustable it'll be well setup for wheelin. Slide the axle as far back as possible for the best departure angles when offroad.
zc911- tongue material. It's plenty strong dude, if its not, the removeable tongue can be easily replaced. Doubt I'll have to tho.
Superzuk- I was gonna use the back end of a kick. Passed on the idea cuz it would have been too heavy. I dont have a decent sami to make a trailer out of. And my biggest fear would be "lookin like TOO much of a redneck" MTO is crackin down on trailer shit more and more.

keep the 2" coupler but use a round tounge ,maybe 3" with a 3"i.d sleeve and you will have all the articulation you will ever need
just a thought

Got a few pics here for ya:
The frame rails. Basically 2 pieces of formed 'c' channel. I stitch welded them together for strength.

spindle mounting plate for the track/kick spindles:

I used a 3.5" holesaw for the spindle hole. It seems to be a perfect fit, this is the backside of the spindle.

The spindle itself on the plate. Notice the 'oil bottle lid' fit perfectly inside the spindle to stop crud from comin thru.

So finally......... here is the frame. 6.5' long. The first and second
cross member are on 16" centers.

Here is a shot of the front. The tongue will slide thru the front and sit in another piece of the reciever material mounted on the second x-member.

A better shot of the tongue. So far it weighs in at around 60lbs. Note the 'ready rack' corner brackets I left on so the trailer can be mounted on legs and converted to a workbench.

Got pre-occupied cuz a deer decided he wanted to meet my 'Kick, face to face. Hope to have it done later this week, after I get back from the city in a few days.

no shit eh! I had that happen with a ford taurus...scarry
I'm assuming everythings ok?.I'm thinking i am going to borrow from your Idea,as I stumbled across two sectionns of 9'braces,similar to what you are using.I'm thinking a 3'x6' trailer to haul with my zook.I can use the axle out of the sj410,and get it welded up fairly cheap through work(the frame that is).Iam going to use a pintle hook set up,because I have one,If I can get a digi cam,Ill get some pics.
Oh.....I'll have this one in tow behind my zook in the spring....no more fawkin around
hmmm, maybe I can get a sticker for my foot traffic in the garage,if I show up with a zook AND a trailer:D

There is a welder from the London GM plant who was making Aluminium trailers during the weekends as a side business, I will pass on any info next time I see him. He has made a few trailers for guys hauling race or show cars

I just got some material for an axle. Im now ready to assemble the axle deal and stuff it under the trailer, this project took a back burner, too much pie on the plate, hope to get it finished before winter.
