i got an MSD 6a kicking around from some other one of my myriad projects .. i checked the MSD website and it says there's a tach adapter required to hook up to my 91 fuel injecterated engine
my question is this; will it work without the tach adapter, ie is the tach adapter necessary just to run the tach that USED to be in the dash or is it there to jive with the computer
i guess i probably shoulda bugged the MSD techs but it's more fun to hassle y'all

You will need the tach adapter to either run the fuel pump or to control the tach. Same prob I had with a 6a box and the 1.8VW engine.

Was the 6A worth it? Ive seen a few crap out offroad. After doin 'a bit' of online research, I keep hearing negative things about MSD in 4x4's that actually wheel. Thoughts???
PS, they're the bomb in a street rod.

I have one here I will sell ya for 60... Cost me $110 new and never ran in my VW. Let me know...
MuddMachine I used to run a MSD 6a box in my full size chev and it made a world of a difference... and will most definately make a small difference in fuel consumption as in burning it all with the Multi Spark Discharge ranging at almost 20degrees instead of a stock spark at say 5-10degrees A stronger coil to go along with it and all should be well. Although with it higher octane fuel may be in order to reduce pinging in the combustion chamber but they do work... Now I have heard horror stories about mexican made MSD coils... Never had one crap out on me personally but have heard many a story of them splitting open and leaking.

My buddy Stu had a stout lil SBC and wifey got him the MSD Offroad box and it bit the bullit second time out. The hotrodders swear by them but Im just a lil concerned for an offroad app.
 Do they make MSD chit for small engines too

Y they make all sorts of ignition controler boxes for anything from 1 cyl to 16cyl if spec'd out right and there customer service is great as well and if need be they will help point you in the right ignition system for yer needs. Also has a forum on the website for help and answers as well...

I'd Suggest this box for the Samuria... They list nothing for a Track/Kick but sure they could help put something together

As for a coil... Try one out of a mid 80's dodge... Old style... Might need a resistor for it but not sure.

At higher rpm, stock inductive ignitions cannot produce full power sparks resulting in a loss of power or even a top end miss.
Personally I don't think the stock Suzuki ignition has any weaknesses. I've heard plenty of Zooks reving to the moon and not one of them ever had a miss. :brows:

I agree. Depot myself and mudpig hit 6500rpms all day long and i have never heard one skip Either. The only difference is that depot has bigger wires to carry the spark.
Mudpig and i are stock. Zookvet likes 8000rpm because when i cut his harness i unknowingly somehow by passed the rev limiter and he has gone through only one motor though. That was due to bearing failure and not an ignition problem.

i ran MSD on my samurai, and did notice a slight difference in the way it started, and ran a bit smoother. the nice thing about it,is that you can run their coil, and lose the crappy coil thats on the samurai. plus it is easier to get a MSD or the like, coil, then to find a good samurai coil.
one thing is for sure, buy suzuki cap and rotors, they are 10 times better then the aftermarket crap.

nothing says "i am the coolest ever" more than a big honking red MSD box where the glove box used to be
i've had these things on a bunch of vehicles and i could be wrong but i noticed it seems to work much better on something with some load to it if that makes sense .. a big old slow, reving v8 turning a slush box and big rubber really perks up with an msd .. i'm interested to see if it's noticable at all on a sami and i got it sitting there collecting dust anyway, so why not ???

Bingo! Take the Ford Windsors for example. Any bone stock Mustang will wake up from 4500-7000 RPM with an aftermarket ignition. Not likely to wake up many import 4 bangers though because the ignitions are designed to handle those conditions from the factory. If you have a modded engine though, then you're likely going to see an improvement. High compression, turbo and NOS are all mods that respond better with an ignition box that can deliver multiple hot sparks per combustion cycle.
