Hey Guys,

I haven't posted hear lately because I've been Sami'less for almost 2 years. I've had serious sellers remorse after letting my '87 LWB go.

Tonight I bought another '87 LWB (http://www.trader.ca/powerpage/details.aspx?vlotid=1589725&adid=5740659) from a used car lot in Kitchener. It's a good runner with a decent body, but rust in the usual spots I think it's in good shape especially for $1100 bucks +tax!

This will be a great winter project fixing the body back to new.

The first order of business will be getting front seats, these ones are shot! Any suggestions cool seats that fit with minimal efort (i.e. CRX, prelude, X90, etc.)

Thanks guys, that's the one.

I've learned the days when the Autotrader updates and that you ne'ed to act ASAP. I've watched too many 1985 4Runners and BJ70 Landcruisers get bought up by dealers that wash it and flip it for double.

This LWB is not perfect, but it's well worth the money.

It's funny how small the Samurai community is in Southern Ontario. Hopefully I'll be meeting up with most of you guys at one time or another.

This is because they didn't make that many after the Consumer reports slammed them. And the ones they did build are rotting away or gone. If Suzuki puts out a decent 4x4 again (Pickup truck?) that will change.

Nice find with that Sammy...looks like you got a nice stock original one to start with.

I plan on making this truck into the vehicle that I've always wanted, but no body ever made. First thing is to get it certified / plated and then remove/repair/restore all of the sheet metal. Then onto the project.

In a perfect world:

- VW 1.9 TDI using acme adapters
- 5 spd / transfercase out of a Toyo minitruck
- Toyo axles (1985 or older to keep the width down)
- ARB Air lockers fr/rr
- Trailtough YJ lift (6.5" SPOA)
- 33" tires
- 8000# winch
- make a soft top

The time difference may be quite large from getting road worthy and starting the project.

Well glad to see this thing belong to someone in this club. I passed by this thing for the past couple of weeks, and trying to get my buddy to buy it. Good score on the price...cause when I talked to him, it was $1295 plus tax last weekend!

I would stare at it wondering how I could buy it and sell mine, and get it pass the wife! Wonder how that would go?

You were not the first to look at it. There has been many tire kickers looking at it. I know, I passed it everyday, twice a day to and from work! I guess the first thing you want to do to get it to pass safety is take care of that nifty locking bungee that holds the rear tailgate shut. But all in all, it looked like it was in really decent shape, considering it's age.

So...I am not that far from you ( like 15 minutes), can I come see it once in a while and dream about it being mine?:brows:

Ya, the bungee cord holding the door closed is irst on the list. I'm sure it's just the lock mechanism buggered up.

I actually haven't had time to look it over because it's dark when I get home from work and the garage is a mess. I don't think it needs much for a safety; tires are good, brakes seem OK, newer exhaust, windshield is good, all lights/signals work, and the E-brake works.

Anybody know what else is required for a safety? It's a 1987 so next year it won't require emissions (20 years old). So I'll probably wait until 2007 to get it on the road, pluse I don't want to get it all salted up.

There's a spring inside the back door..if it's missing then the door won't stay shut...So this thing is that nice that you don't wan't salt on it? Must be really solid and original.

Looks like I need to back to internet forums 101.

Tearing apart the truck in preparation for the new driveline / engine. Originally I was thinking Toyo mini truck driveline and VW diesel, but I've got a line on a 1984 4Runner with a blown head gasket. So I was thinking of buying the entire truck and rebuild the 22RE engine. Then swap the whole thing into the LWB. The problem is the truck has 338,000 km on it hasn't moved much in 10 years.

How much do you guys think it would cost to buy a Toyota mini truck 5 spd, transfercase, and axles? The entire truck might be more than piecing it all together.
