It has begun....
The donor vehicles are in. First off I have to say THANK YOU to fullload and depot for all their help and I couldn't have brought them home as easily without depots truck and trailer. Try flat towing an "iron pig"(thats what they are known as), these things even made the duramax work hard.
Im gonna weigh the axles and compare them to the P/U axles to see how much weight difference there is.
Many thanks to superzuk for telling me where they were.

After trying different rotors and not liking the idea of grinding down the diameter of the axle flange i decided to go with a suggestion fulload made and use a zuk rotor. what i did was i removed 5 of the 6 bolts from the axle and lined up one of the wholes in the rotor. notice the centre hole is a perfect fit. then i took a tacoma rotor and put it on top with one stud through a hole and lined up the centre. took a can of spray paint and now i have the holes marked to drill out.:D

Is that axle on the left a toy minitruck axle or a zuk axle ?
And what axle is the one on the right ? To be honest with ya, it dont look like no D60 equivelant. I know some crusher axles are huge but I dont think this is the one Im thinkin of. Looks like it steps down twice.
lil beast
January 23rd, 2004, 06:10 PM
steps down three times actually. ALL cruiser axles are 30 spline inners and the one on the right is the cruiser. Who is comparing to a d60?
MuddMachine
January 23rd, 2004, 06:33 PM
I do believe the one crusher model has 33 spline axles. What axles are you using fr/rr ? Since it steps down, why dont you stick them in a lathe and lose a few pounds off them. Never heard of this bein done but why not ?
BTW... you got spares ? Reason I ask is cuz they are c-clip axles.
BTW again, lol, what size meats you gonna run ?

here is a link for the info I got on the axles. you might be thinking of 33mm, just a thought.
I got spares and if i break all of them, CT carries axles.:D
fronts im not to worried about since the inners are the same as 8"toy's.
Ill be running the 33" baja claws for now and staying sprung under.
When I can afford 35"-36" claws ill do the SPOA.

Thanx for the info. What I meant was........ wich axles are going where ? You had a 40 and a 60, exactly what axles from wich vehicle are you using ?
lil beast
January 24th, 2004, 05:45 PM
no 60's, I have axles from a bj42(canadian version of the fj40) and a bj70(which have the same axles as the bj42). There were only 300 bj70's imported to canada a year and for three years only. The US didnt get any at all.:D
the bj70 had some bj60 parts sittin in the back :ie steering box, springs, trans.

WTF. I decided to go all the way. When I put the truck on the ground I saw good wheel well space for the tires I have. I took a tape measure to see where the 35's would sit and :yike I wouldnt have any room for up travel, the tire would tare into my wheel wells. I made the decision to go spring over. This is the insane part, SPOA with 5" lifted cj springs..........FAWK, I didnt want to go that high.lol. Im posting some pics.
this is the wheel well space before.

Great idea, just wonderin how theyre gonna take to mud :yike
If mud's not a problem, this will be a great solution to the parking brake thing.
So beast..... whats the deal with the cables and these calipers ? Is it a problem ? Wanna know how u gonna make it work.
I think once we start puttin 35"+ tires under it along with big diffs and custom steering.... this street legal thing may become a very grey area , if not a serious issue.

Are you using the stock ebrake cable ?
Only difference is with your truck and 35's its alot more noticeable than a TJ on 35's.

True but there are plenty of them around and I havnt seen any cops cracking down on them. I can see it being a safty issue if a zuk was on a stock wheel base with 40" tires....thats nuts. I have extended the wheel base to around 86-88" from 80.

Springs will sag ZC911. which will give a better ride and more flex. Cutting and turning the knuckles will be a big benifit and was worth the time to do.
I would not worry about MTO too much with this truck. The main stuff is taken care of and everthing will be properly done.
The only thing that may cause a problem is a rear mudflap. MTO are looking for scary shit like a lifted truck wandering all over the road from lack of steering solutions and adjustments, and just potentionally dangerous stuff.
I would be more worried of the rotten old POS with holes in it all over the place next to me than i would of beasts truck.

Those look like small 35's (from the manufacturer i mean). Now the question...... how tall does the truck sit (ground to roof) ?
Looks like you got room for 40's.
lil beast
March 13th, 2004, 05:59 AM
34.7 is pretty close to 35. when the springs settle it wont look so high. the fronts started to sag so the angle of the shackle is way off so that needs to be moved. i need to wheel the piss out of it with weight in the back to sag the rear.

March 13th, 2004, 07:39 AM
Youve had these springs for a few years now havent you ? How much sag are you hopin on ?
You could pull a leaf out of each pack, no ?
TheSarg
March 13th, 2004, 08:50 AM
hehehe i can answer this, he just got them re-arched and they're CJ spring so i dont believe they will sag as fast as Zuk spring but they will sag, he just needs to beat on it!!

March 14th, 2004, 01:50 PM
Fine line between saggin them down a bit and ruining a good set of springs. If you beat on them too hard you'll kill them, they'll end up like this:
\____/=\____/
Know what I mean ? You'll only get them to sag 2" max before you start to get the "double sag" thing goin on. Id suggest takin them to Hardick and get them to "unarch" them a bit.

here is some booty fab. the reason i did this is to keep the springs inline as the perches and plates are for a 2.5" spring and im using the 2" cj"s. This way i can eliminate the need for those clamps they wrap the spings with and that will give me a bit more droop.
lil beast

next is the steering arm, most of the arms i have seen have the king pin section cut off the upper arm. To me this makes the arm alot weaker. Brian took the upper and lower arm to work and ground them down smooth so they sit flush with each other. The king pin was cut off at the same time and the both of them are through bolted and welded toghether.
Thanks again Fullload:beer:

March 19th, 2004, 08:15 AM
those gr 8 through bolts, did u manage to keep the cone washers that were origanaly in the kingpin? If not, u will find those through bolts will slowly back off and ur king pin arms will losen. I had the same prob with mine. If yah clean out the grease real good and use some blue locktite it helps a lot. red if ur brave enough.
Also, the angle of ur steering arm rod end... u might find it binds up when u turn ur wheel all the way to one side and the tire droops or stuffs. I had to heat my arms up and twist em till they were a bit flatter that what u see now. Works mint but then u have to truss em cause they will revert back to the original position - damn memmory.
just a couple suggestions for yah but it looks awesome buddy.

ahhh come onnn. I would trust this thing with my life and i guess i will. I have seen some arms out there that dont look as strong as this one and they hold up pretty good to some hard trail shit.
the weld is just to fit in the gap as both arms are still comlete.
Thanks depot for the advise and i was going to locktite the piss outa it(and still will) i just wanted to get the thing toghether.

March 19th, 2004, 05:33 PM
Depot the arms will be heated and twisetd to get a better rod angle. when i sanded them i took em over to the shear and cut a couple of trusses to help with the heat stress that the steel sees.
Who ever has a Metric tapered reamer and wants to let us borrow it to make the original cones fit we will do it , but for now i think that it is plenty strong. It is twice the thickness of an original arm and you never see one of them break. Like beast said the only reason why the weld is there is to help keep the two arms from trying to wander away from each other.
The same arms will be run on my truck too.
Zc911 the bolts came from a suppier that specializes in metric fasteners in Mississauga Called Fabory or fabroy. Be very careful and make sure what you order is what you want cause they are ISO 9000 whatever and there is more paperwork and bull you have to go throught than what the bolts are worth.

Well I had to pull it out of the garage to get fullloads ready for may 24.
Only a couple of things left and thats the e brake, shocks and track bar.
I did run into a couple of problems with the rear shaft, found a bad u joint and the rear pinion bearing is gone so there is still a bit of work left.
