So I'm out playing in the snow on sunday,ya know over in the mall parking lot,and decide to go inside to get some smokes.I come back out,and the fawker wont start!.It wont make a sound.Everything else works, but it wont turn over?.Well I managed to push it(in a foot of slush) over to a hill, and bump started it.Got it home, parked it,shut it off,and it started right away.It did it again later as i went out again.
what the hell is wrong with it?.
It starts when cold,
and only has not started twice when hot.
when it wont start, the starter wont make a sound.
wait 2 hours, and it starts easy.
Hey gearhead, did you have any problems with this?
help me please,as bump starting in the snow sucks!

I would say bad starter or starter wiring.
Do you have a meter? First see if your getting power to the solenoid when you turn the key. If no then trace the circut back, if yes wack the starter with a hammer and see if it starts turning (watch your hands eh)
Sounds like a bad starter to me.

yup probably bad starter, i have had that on other cars before. And happens to my parents 96 dodge caravan.
For the dodge you can acutally rock it back and forth in drive, then put it in nuertal and the bastard will start (since you can;t reach the starter to smack it)

could this be electrical? Today it started like normal, and I drove over to a friends. When I left it was like having a dead battery-a couple of turns then click clic cli uh.....then roll down the hill in reverse.VROOM!! went and got gas,and this time it started no prob.

soooo.....should I have it rebuilt,or does someone have one for me to purchase?.Hmmm just thought of something thou....
I dont think I can get underneath it being fat and all, guess I'll be needing a spoa, and taller tires done before I do that.Guess I'll have to send DannyL a money order, and go see gearhead, for rims.Oh yah ,does anybody know what year of Toyota truck I need to get the brake line -T from to do the rear brakes.Going to be discs.
Thanks for your help.

The toyota splitters came on 79-85 rear axles and pretty sure even newer models have it as well. but not sure.
I would guess that it is a starter as well. I have this problem..... when she is cold it will take sometimes 15-20 turns of the key to get it to even hint of turning over. Just a sticky solenoid. or (in my case) the pinion is full of mud and gets jammed until there is enough juice from the battery to un stick it, cause zooks are famous for the "clicky starter" syndrome.
You think bump starting it now is tough, wait till you get a set of 32's and a locker rear end!!!! makes the zook weigh like a full size. I have one spare starter right now but i think before the end of the winter it has to go in cause of what i had just told ya.
Could be worse!!! Oh yeah you can change the starter in twenty minutes without getting under the trcuk. Just tricky getting one of the bolts that all.

i did not have any starter problems while i was daily driving it.
She did sit for a while, it could be a bad starter.
Can you hear it "click" when your turn the key.......or no sound at all? Its most likely a bad starter. but check the selenoid first. They tend to rust and cause problems. I have use a brake cyclinder hone to clean them up before.
I have a NEW starter, hell i think i even tried to sell it to you once already. Its a rebuild that i got from canadain tire. i had one go bad, took it in for an exchange and blow up the 1.3 before i installed it. So it has never been used.
Maybe you could come pick it up, grab those rims too. We can install it in my driveway if you like.........you dont have to get under the truck, just pull that battery out of the way and you have a clear shot at it.
PM me if you want and we can set something up.
Maye this saturday??

Clicky starter fix. Look for them on ebay.com. It's not your starter, it's just years of crap. The "fix" on ebay will solve your problem and it's only like $9.99 US - which I think is like $400.00 Canadian...
