I've heard only good things about the acme adapter kit.
Are you thinking of using the 1.9tdi?
You might get up to 40mpg, but not 60.
go to the samurai diesel yahoo groups, most of them are getting around 30mpg. I think some there have sidekicks with diesels.
I have the 1.6td in my samurai, torque is noticeably more than the 1.3L gas, but in the low revs under load the diesel really starts jumping around. Other than that it's really smooth and quiet.

The TDI in my 2001 Jetta averages 55MPG. I got 62.4 MPG on one trip with a very disiplined foot.

You wont get that with a off road rig. 40+ yes.

I've used 6 acme adapter kits to date.

One for a 1.9TD hardtop Samurai and the rest are 1.6 NA's and 1.6TD's in softtop Samurai's.

The difference between the kick Acme kit and the Samurai kit is with the transmission and the oil pan of the motor you choose to work with. For the kick, you need an Acme oil pan if you don't want to spend the money for an expensive lift. You don't need the Acme oil pan if you plan to lift your kick.

Strait from the horses mouth ( so to speak)

Hey vwzzuk, nice to see you on this site (bout time) Looking forward to the bevy of knowledge u and your partner in crime bring with you. btw where's my LJ80 VW diesel kit? hehe j/k

Just a thought but if you are going to the extent of puttin the VW in it would these clearance issues erupt if the kick was SAS'ed? And how much work would it really be if you already had everything torn down to put a solid axle underneath it anyways??

also just a insomiac thought but is the ifs front driveline strong enuff to handle the output of the VW motor??

Man, am I delinquent or what!

You don't need a lift in the sidekick because you use an Acme oil pan. It eliminates the need for an expensive lift. You could put a solid front axle under the kick, though. The front driveline should be fine, eh.

So, I've done 12 plus so far and have found that I'm never returning to a stock suzuki motor. Had a fellow pull his 1.6 sidekick motor in his samurai and replaced it with a 1.6TD. He loves it.

So, hows your swap coming along?

I'm doing a hybrid 1.9 in a hardtop at the moment.

How does lifting an IFS help with oil pan clearance in any way??

On the hunt for toyo axles so I don`t have to mess with the oil pan on my 95 kick. I have a 1.9TD out of a 95 golf , it`s the IDI motor..
