I want to pull my little sami around but dont have a car trailer and dont want to spend the cash to build one. I was thinking that a tow bar would be the best Idea. I think Ill make one out of 2x2 square tube, should only cost $30 to build.
Anyone run a tow bar and what are the problems with them? Do I have to lock the steering or leave it free to turn?

You leave the steering unlocked for flat towing.

And for long (Id say 100+km) you should remove the drive-shaft from the t-case to the rear dif. (and I do mean totally remove it - not just one flange and bungee it up).

James said it right....... The only raeal problem is the drveshaft removal and install on a long haul. The other is the unforseen breakage or flat tire. I have used one and also no problems, tows like there is nothin behind my truck.

Thanks for the tips. I guess as long as it dose not break anything after runing the trails it should be ok. Just have to bring enouf spare parts to fix it.
Pulling the shaft will suck but I guess its better then messing the tcase up.

It's a good practice whether using a trailer or flat towing to check ur wheel bearings every time u stop... just see if they are getting too hot. If a wheel bearing starts to let go in ur zuk, u prolly wont hear it in ur tow rig and that can have catostrofic consequences. (did I spell anything right there?)

You only need to pull the 4 bolts at the diff. remove that half of the shaft and put it in the vehicle. Unlock the front hubs and go, the other half (bolted to the rear output) will not go anywhere.

Dopot's spot on about the wheel bearings, I'd like to add the rear pinion bearing to that as well. If that baby seizes your gonna have trouble too.
