For those coming up Friday ya all might want to think about your planned route. As it seem the Mohawk Nation of the Tyendinaga Mohawk reserve near Deseronto, Ont., plan to set up a blockade of either Highway 401 or the national rail line, close to the town on Lake Ontario's Bay of Quinte, or will block access to Deseronto itself.

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/25062007/3/canada-ont-mohawks-plan-blockade-friday.html

So some food for thought if they do plan a blockade of the 401 you may want to find another way up to Highway 7 to head up to Suzican.

I hope this does not happen but it's not looking to good for traveling on the 401 this Canada Day long weekend.

401 to 37 to 7 to Flinton to 41 to 506 to 509 to the KP trail up to Calabogie is the shortest distance, and gets you off the Highway long before Deseronto. A smoother route is to take 41 up to Grifith and turn East onto Matawatchan rd, follow the River all the way baby.

HeHeHe, trying to get them all lost in the backroads of the Ottawa Valley. LoL I can see motorhomes now trying to drive up the K&P. 'Least the water level should be down at the big swamp. LoL

Your best action would be to side with the native people at the blockade and tell them that you will hold your government reponsible for not resolving the issue's that they have, and that its time for the ontario and canadian goverment to treat everyone fairly thats involved in the claim's .. native or not... if you can't bring yourself to do that, then find a alternitive route... Peace..

Holding people hostage on a 400 series Highway, yeah that will make me side with you FAWK!

Fullsizeguy is not a native but is a business owner and home owner in Deseronto. He has talked with many a people about this issue and knows more than the polititians do about the area. He is only stating this so that people who do go through that area don't push back and make the scene any worse than it already could be.

Steve, since u know the area...
does Rosehill Rd/Glenfield Rd (just north of Denbigh off of 41) connect to 65/Centennial Lake Rd? it would shave some k's by bypassing Griffith...
keep in mind... I would like to keep the Dodge pulling the sammi on the trailer.... not the other way around:thefinger

Sure does, but I sure as hell wouldn't try it. They have improved it some, but we consider the back side of Rose hill a trail:D . In the spring the road flows, the whole road. It only looks shorter on the map, Rose is a one lane bolder strewn dirt road. It's twisty and the back side is a rutted 40 deg grade.

65 is your best bet IMHO, it's a little twisty, but it's paved.

Edit: good speckles in Rose lake. :)

coming from peterborough there is less than 8 miles total distance more if you stay on 7 to perth then head north and the road is a lot better.

We are leaving at noon on friday if anyone wantsto hook up

You are right, 15 Km almost on the nose. I only prefer 41 for the scenery, it's a good drive with more amenities along the way. 41 Stop in Denbigh has great food and friendly service. Isabelle's in Northbrook at the Petro Canada is quick for cheap deep fried lunch and the corner store in Grifith make a mena Pizza pie! I'll be taking 41 myself but will be stopping at my cottage for 10 or 15 min to pickup my magic box.

We got two trucks coming from Lake Huron coast this year, leaving early friday and heading down to NewMarket, accross to Port Perry, Peterborough, then 7 to Kaladar, north to Griffith then back road her in. with gas stops etc, we roll for over 8 hours. Me and the big block should arrive by supper time Friday if all holds together on the trip.

From Kaladar to hydro dam road its about 40 km more through Perth then to head north. According to google maps. remember we are not exactly in downtown Calabogie, try your map programs set to hydro dam road or big chute.
