Just an FYi for eveyone, there are 2 kinds of ujoints in the jackshaft/driveshafts.

There is the regualr style with 4 C clips on the top
AND
a u joint with 2 C clips int he regualr spot on top, but 2 of the C clips go underneath. (know what i mean)

Here is where regualr u joints and the cclip under ujoints are

first u joint on the jack shaft(closest to motor) regular
second u joint on jack shaft(at transfer case) c clip under
first u joint on the front drive shaft(at transfer case) c clip under
second u joint on front drive shaft(at the dif) is regular
doh i can;t re,ber what the rear driveshaft is now hahah i have to look again
This is on my truck, i dunno if eveyone else has the same thing?

Zedd, fer sake of ease of operation,if they are all the same size use one style only, so u can carry less spares and the peeps on the trail can help u out with thier spares if needed, on sarg i used the kick yoke plates and kick u-joints, and found if i broke one i was fubar'ed!!!

can't though.
I tried usuing the 4 outside clip ujoint on a joint that had the 2 clips inside and the c clip popped off after a couple days becuase there was no grove for the clip to sit in (tested ont he front driveshaft since if i loose the use of it no biggie)
You guys know what i mean right, kinda hard to explain lol

are you running a 84 transfer case?? someone might have just swapped yokes rather han redrilling for the older bolt patern or you might have a pre-85.5 shaft.

The older shafts used "c" clips on the inside of the yoke. The later style uses Snap rings on the outside of the yoke. Also the older yokes have a different shape to them.

ahhh cool
thanks for clearing that up. I guess over the years it got changed.
So if i call up napa and tell them i need ujoints for an 84 i should get the C clip ones, not the snap ring ones?

That should be correct but i thought the universal u-joints that you buy at crappy tire had both the inside and outside clips in the bag with the cross and caps?

About $25.00 Including tax. or is that before tax??? It's about there. somewhere. that is the last time i bought one it was about $25.00. Funny thing is that Crappy tire usually has one or two in stock.

That doesnt surprise me considering track/kicks take the same joint.

if you are going to buy ujoints from crappy tire make sure you buy the ones that are NOT greaseable.......trust me thay pop if you beat on them to bad, the solid ones are a little better, factory joints are the best, i think i might have to get a toyota shaft for suzican this year though. I'm sick of swapping ujoints.

I think he means that the crappy tire joints come with the outside and insides clips and you discard the ones that you don't need. Am i right?
