Hello everyone, great site!

I am fairly new to owning a Sidekick, Had mine for about 2 months now.

here is my story, hopefully someone knows whats going on.

My 91 Sidekick needed a few things here and there and I found one in a wrecking yard for the parts. One of the parts I needed was the fuse cover because I didn't have one and the whole fuse box was filled with 15 amp fuses. I got the cover and changed to the proper fuses, and upon trying to instal the cover I noticed it would not go on because there was a fuse in the DIAG port. I pulled it out and snapped on the cover. Well when I tried to start it, it would not start!! everything worked and starter cranked, but no fire. I put that fuse back in the DIAG port and boom, fired right up. Now upon doing some research I have learned that that port is for flashing the trouble codes through the check engine light and should not be occupied by a fuse at any given time. So what is wrong with mine that it has to have a fuse in it to run? Very confusing.

sorry for the long post but any help would be greatly appreciated!!.

Thanks,
Lance

Anyway, it sounds like someone made some changes to the fuse panel or you have a short.

Get a wiring diagram for it and start tracing wires.

When you pull the fuse do you get spark and fuel?

Thats a strange one. for sure.... usually you cannot even start the vehicle when it is "supposted" to be in diag mode. Try disconnecting the battery and removing the ecm from the vehicle and go for a a smoke. then come back and hook everything again this time without the jumper fuse. See if that will work. If not i think Mudslug is right and someone did some custom hacking.
On a second thought Are you sure that the parts truck was the same year and your kik? they may have done something silly and changed the location of the fuses so that you think that it is the diag and actually it is the fuel pump fuse?????

Good luck and let us know what happens.

that sounds like a Depot wiring job - aka.. custom wiring

look for the rolls and rools of electrical tape.. somebody bypassed something to get her to work, added a fwe circuis. maybe moved a few around.... erhaps the fuse block itself got smaked and instead of replacing it, just moved a couple cicuits around to salvage the block. 2 10 mill bolts and the fuse block comes off.. take a look that the wiring colours behind the fuse in question.. either post the colours or look it up in wiring schems.. that should answer ur Q

I say Full is right

"On a second thought Are you sure that the parts truck was the same year and your kik? they may have done something silly and changed the location of the fuses so that you think that it is the diag and actually it is the fuel pump fuse????? "

Its probably the wrong cover or you are reading it upside down..
