Other than your spare tire what do you bring,on a trip to Suzican,Ardbeg Forest Loop, Pickering Pits:ro: ?
I plan on ACTUALLY gettin it this year, and was thinking after my spoa,Ill have some spare stuff....axles,hubs,bearings.etc...
now once I started thinking about it,most of it will fit in the box I have...but the list can get crazy long.Spare fluids, tools, parts, jack, straps, shackles etc...where in the hell do you put it all,as well as your personal shit ,like camping gear,beer,beer,ice,....
what do you guys bring, and has anybody have any good storage solutions(other than Muddmachine who has a great solution-lwb),but even mudd caries a lot of stuff and the familia, and a dog too.

axels and R&P's for u! :D a good set of tools, wrenches (bring doubles of the common ones like 12 14 17 and 19) good socket set and a BFH. highlift, straps, duct tape and electrical tape.

parts - whatever u have.. even if u dont carry it with u on the trail, leave it in ur van back at base camp in case u need it. much closer than going back home or begging at camp.

i find the best place for tools is strapped behind the seats.. that way if u do something depot style the seat will take the hit and not u.

my 2 cents.. time for bed again.. going abck to work in 5 hours

i alway bring spare drive shafts,a lot easier to change out the whole shaft than try a u-joint on the trail.
duct tape ,,ratchetstraps...work good for broken transfer case mounts, zip ties the bigger the better and i alway always have the chain saw, better to cut a fallen tree thats blocking the trail than make a mess going around it, less for the anti,s to complain about.

I like to drive my truck to events rather than trailer it.

Before you leave home make sure the truck is 100%, if you know someting is on the way out fix it now. Its much easier in you driveway than hip deep in mud. If i am plannign a big trip i use my truck as a daily driver for at least a week before if go. This way i won't be surprised buy a bad u-joint or bearing.

I break it down into two sorts of trips.
Local and Distant

Local Trips would be someting close to home or within an hour or two. Some distance that you could drive out with a buddy and return with what broke, or what you can afford to get a tow home. (what is the CAA long distance tow 250 kms?) or get flat towed home or idealy limp home. (i drove oshawa to hamilton once with a blow rear diff, removed the rear d-shaft and fwd it home.)

For these trips I pack.

A good set of tools, (just basic suff you are not going to be setting exact timing on the the trail), duck tape, electrical tape, bailing wire, hose clamps, fuses, auto silicone, jb weld, fluids, oil filter, air filter, two u-joints, a complete rear d-shaft if you have one, belts, and a length of rad hose, misc nuts and bolts, t-case mounts, timming belt, dist cap and rotor, oil presure sending unit, throtle cable

Most of this will fit into a small ammo can.

Distant trips (long weekends)
Some distance from home that if something broke you would be screwed, have a $$ towing bill, or just waste a weekend driving to get parts.
This is where the small trailer comes in handy, most of this stuff gets left at a base camp.

everthing from the local trip plus the following.
More fluids, 5w30, 80w90, coolant, etc (enough for two complete fliud changes), fuel, at least 10 gallons, a replacement for every belt an hose, a complete front-rear d-shaft, plus some extra yokes, and ujoints, left and right axle shafts with backing plates and brakes, two rear axle oil seals, two front axle shafts, rear diff, extra front hub (sometimes two), front spindle with bearings(sometimes two), rad, efi fuel pump, extra computer, extra battery(i use it for my fridge too), i also bring my non-efi intake and carb and a universal 12v fuel pump just in case my efi go's fubar, distributor and wires, clutch cable

And if i'm realy some distance, or i know i will want to really beat on my truck ie suzican (5 hours on the highway for me) then i add; a transfer case, transmission, rear axle tube, spair leaf springs (all four), clutch-pressure plate-thought out bearing,

If there is no basecamp, then this list gets altered quite a bit.

I know this sounds like alot of stuff but i do drive my truck there and back, if you want to trailer you could leave alot of this stuff at home, assuming that you are ok if you weekend ends early because you blew a diff/t-case/rad

I am sure there is some stuff i have not thought about.
Really just try to thing of stuff that you have broken in the past and see if it makes sence to drag it along.
alot of stuff can be getto fixed in the feild enought to get you home. I have yet to be stranded, or towed.

I know it sounds like alot of gear but Gearheads bang on the money, short of flat-towing a fully operational Zuk u have to be prepared for everything imaginable.

i forgot

spark plugs

u-bolts, they alwas seem to break coming off

drag link, and tie rod, possible left and right kuckles although i have yet to see on break

Also remember flat towing only works if all four wheels still roll........ so rear axles and diffs have to be working.

Is is great thought for any drive line / engine probems.

I guess the best hing to do would be trailering the truck there, but i just don't have a tow vehicle, and dont really want to invest in one. Also i take a strange pride in driving my truck at 110 kph to an event so i can enjoy the weekend and then drive the 500 kms home. later

Thanks for the reply ,this is a good list.Man I thought my original list was long.I would rather be carring extra gear and not use it than have to bug every body on the trail to borrow.their spares..
