Have you crawled under there to see what parts seem to have excessive play? Could be a U-joint.

Didn't you just go though all of this?Have you looked under it around it checked your mounts,,u-joints,everything?.All zooks have noises, and things loosen up,what was the clunk last time, check it again.last springI had a vibration, couldnt seen to figure it outwhile sitting in the shade of my driveway,I put my feet up on the rear tire, and relized that four hub bolts were loose.....maintanence?whats that.

i have gone over EVEYTHING, changed all the ujoints, you name it i did it, i am out of ideas, it sounds likes it comming from th trasnfer case area. It only does it in 2wd not 4wd. And this is not a regualr noise it's a THUD like hitting a rubber malet on the bottom of the truck.
What does a bad locker sounds like?

have you checked your t-case mounts? (Three locations)
also transmission mount ? ( one location)
Also try engine mounts ( two locations)
You may be chasing nothing. If the truck is locked in the rear, there is a certain amount of slop inhearant in the rear end. This isn't a Honda :D put the t-case and tranny in Nuetral and see how much you can turn the rear drivshaft. You will find that you can turn it 1/4 to 1/3 of a revelution. This slop translates into a thump or thud in accelleration or while changing gears.
Its a Zuk think.......................YOU WILL UNDERSTAND!!!!!

Jump in your zook and go to depot's house. On your way there stop at the beer store and get 48 cold one's,might as well pick up some rum for chasers, and maybe a couple of subs,'cause his house is under construction. After a dozen or so "pops",ask him to take ya for a spin in his....just around the block though,'cause,he's not plated for on road use. When you get back, and get a couple of rums in ya(you will need them,as his heater doesn't work so well-check the mainpage!)try and remember where that knock you heard was coming from.....if you heard it on his,and it's close to the same as yours, then dont wory everything is ok.........or get it on a hoist and figure it out.

hey mud lite, do you mean 1/4 -1/3 of a turn on the pinion flange is normal?i have about that much slop, and i am locked front and back, and i thought that was way too much, but this is my first suz, and my first 4x4 with lockers.my t case is 4:16 and it has about the same slop as the diffs. is this norm too?
as for your thud problem zc911, i take it that you have a spoa lift? drive shft spacers? i know on mine, the front drive shaft will bouce off the cross member every once in a while. i heated it up , and gave her a couple of wacks with a BFH, and it don't hit near as much any more.just another thing to check, but i would be leaning towards the drive train slop . check your u bolts too.

I chased a strange thud for about 2 months. Turned out to be loose ubolts on the rear axle. I could not tighten them anymore becasue they had rusted. I guess they streched. I replaced them an the thud was gone.
Park you truck, set the parking brake, get out an rock the truck back and forth. or have a buddy do it while you crawl inder the truck. don't do this on a hill.
just remember its a suzuki not a honda.

Could be a worn pinion bearing, it would cause excessive play on the driveshaft rotational wise but not show as a bad joint. if the preload on the pinion nut was not done correctly it could also cause this either front or rear.
Take yer Ds's off and shake yer pinion plate up and down, if there is slop then u know where yer prob is. Ifnot, unbolt your transfer case and tranny mounts, then re tighten them, sometimes if not dont correctly they will bind and pop until they settle or until u settle them correctly, sounds odd, but thats what happened to mine

Gobig!!! Mudlite also told ZC911 to put everything in nuetral. When we looked at yours you were in gear and had the e-brake on. Yours was not normal, it was more like half a turn.
I know mine freaked me out once when i spun it and it was ll over the place but never did it after, where as your diff was all the time.
ZC911 i dunno what to tell ya. But everybody's right You just gotta do what i showed ya. Just get under ther and smack and bang and hit whatever you see whether you know what it is or not, then pinpoint a couple of things and have questins asked after.
We can sit here all day and suggest things to check, but if you don't give us a general are or possible source then we are just guestimating.
My zuk looks like it dogtracks and it doesn't go over 110kph on the highway and the boggers are not balanced and the steering is all over the road. You know what just drive it till it pops, and then you'll know. It's not a $100,000 porshe where a clunk warrants going to the dealer and telling them to fix it.
It's a zuk, and it's doing what they do best, still driving!!!!

Nope, no SPOA. Nothing is hitting anything. The one thing i thought it might be was a shitty trac bar. Took the piece o shit off and the noise is still there. Cool never thought about the U joints i will check that out
GearHead
I tried rocking back and forth with me underneath it, and it will not make any noises. I tired acutally poping hte clutch with my buddy as close as he could get under the truck without being run over and we could not pin point where it was comming from
Thanks, i will defintaly check out the ubolts
TheSarg
I thought that too, i bought the bearing and seal, but with eveything in netual there is not alot of slop at all. I really don;t think it;s the pinion b earing

I was swinging from parts under there :D Well nto really but you get the indea. Thats why i took off the track bar becuase even reinforcing it didin;t help. what a shitty design the dude before me did.
hahaha thats one thing that suprised me was how good it is on the highway, 120ish no problem straight as an arrow, better than driving at 60km/h
hahah i was thinking this monring i wish it would break so i knwo what it is :D then i thought na wiat till the spirng to break lol
I'm not complaining it;s just frustrating :D
Acutally i don;t have any spacers on the drive shafts, if they are extended too much would that cause a problem?

My old YJ did this exact thing .
It turned out to be the spring eye touching the frame due to a sagged spring .
Took a week of looking to find it and when I did it was hard to verify .
I ended up putting on a bigger shackle and it was gone .
Good luck ...get some spacers before you hit the rocks or you might kill a driveshaft !!
