I have called the dealer for a couple of parts and he keeps asking me if my truck is an 88 or an 88.5 how do i tell the difference and what is the difference.

From what i know an 88 has a carb and the 88.5 has a force feedback(computer controlled) carb setup with more emissions crap, somebody jump in here with more info

Sarge you,re right. the 88.5 has the dreaded feed back carb, lots of hoses and three different wireing plugs coming off it. you can also look on the drivers side down near the speaker there should be a vin plate with the date of manufacture . mine was built in july and had the feedback carb. other differances are found in the the driveshafts , the later models came with bigger flanges and 14 mill bolts instead of 12 mill

The 88's have a higher 5th gear,3 circles in the dash (2 are vents and a clock in the middle, optional),stiffer spring rates. The sway bar is on the inside of the u-bolt platesand the steering wheel is different.:)

oh yeah and the 88 has a better clock then the 88.5 :beer:

the vent holes are square on the 88 &88.5 .I think 87 or older are round. regardless theres never any noticable heat that comes out of them!

look under ur glove box.. see a black box (puter) y = 88.5 n = 88

feedback carbs suck the big uns! damn puters rot out on em!

if you need a computer for one , i have one, also my 88 had round style vents. i thought that the 90's went to the square vents.most of the stuff is the same though.

Check the manufactur date on the door or on the door sill....

Round dash vents = 88, square dash vents = 88.5

98% of parts are interchangeble

Thanks for the help,I am sorry to tell you all i have an 88.5.
I guess i will have to make due until i can upgrade the carb among other things.Thats a question for another day.Right now i have alot of wire work to do.the guy who had before me didn't leave such a pretty wiring job.Thanks again.
