Not really a towing thread but mto related...
Went to get a temporary trip permit today to get my samurai safetied, and apparently if vehicle wasn't safetied/certified by the previous owner, which shows up as 'unf' (unfit) on the ownership, you need to get it safetied before you can get a trip permit. Yeah right, sure ain't renting another uhaul trailer to tow it to the garage to safety it...
Then if its over 20 years old they won't accept the bluebook value or bill of sale, and I had to have it appraised. are you kidding me? Appraise a beat up stock 86 samurai? No suzuki dealer in town, so I went to the local ford, mazda, chev and gm dealers, and luckily one of them filled out the appraisal form from mto without even seeing the sami, appraised at $100! whats that $7 in taxes? :D

maybe that is all its worth :(

Anyways, if you are samurai shopping and plan to put it on the road, check out the ownership for UNF and get the price down a couple hundred for your trouble.

Only good news of today was a set of brake shoes from CT was $23, and after a few phone calls I found a spring kit for the brakes for $20 at carquest, now all I need is somebody to safety it the same way as the appraisal so I don't have to drive with no/fake plates :brows:

It's been that way for the last 30 cars I registered. Are you new to this driving game? All vehicles have to be FIT to be legally driven on the road. Once a vehicle is FIT, it stays FIT until you transfer ownership. Even if you leave it rotting in the back 40 for 20 years, as long as the ownership doesn't change names, the vehile stays fit. Sounds like the PO bought it and didn't bother plating it.

Thats what happened I guess. This is my 5th car and by far the oldest, so this was news to me. Just trying to forewarn others who are vehicle shopping. I did manage to get it safetied and plated yesterday, and its seen a few hundred km with no trouble. Taking it on a rip this weekend and we'll see how she does.
