Just a question on fj-80 tie rod ends, that low range has for $20 each. Are they tapered?? Is there a easy or propper way to create the hole in the stearing knuckle to accept the tie rod end??

yes they are tapered..and u would need a special metric taper ream for proper fitment and taper contact....second the threads are 23 mm...nearly impossible to find a right hand tap...never mind a left....even nuts besides the jam nuts they come with were a no go...the only thing they are good for is replacement parts if you already have a toy with stock steering..
what is your purpose...did u want to use these on your zook possibly..?

oh i for got to mention that you can buy bungs off lowrange........the outside diameter of the bung is .990..thus the tubing u would have to buy will have to have a 1'' inside diameter..plus at least .250 wall..giving u a piece of tubing of 1.5'' out side diameter....now that is some huge steering links.....:D

Ya I just was looking to beef up my current steering, adding heavier ends to the zook. The 23 mm tap is not a problem, got a bud who could tap that in a peice of thick tube no problem. The problem is he can not take a part into his shop to work on, only build stuff there and bring it out. So he couldnot take in the high steer or knuckle to ream it out. Long story why but it involves radiation, and high security.

23 mm tap no problem...in right and left hand...I must have called every machine shop in southern Ontario...no one had anything...so I moved on to the next solution. Gl on the up grade..

the way he explained it to me was not using a tap at all, some type of inside milling type machine, you measure the thread spacing and the depth of thread its all done as it mills the inside it advances the bit and its threaded. It doesn't have to be a tap at all. Helps that is likely the best funded machine shop in all of Ontario.

I see...I understand...just when u actually have to pay for such a job the cost out weights the gain...unless a friend can do it...also the part i needed done was not straight so that method could not be done..

I think most guys are using a lathe these days for cutting threads.

There is only one place in southern ontario that will be able to get you the tap. I forget the name but they are in Cambridge and the taps will have to be custom made. I enquired a few years ago but the right was about 70ish bucks and the left was a couple hundred but i cannot remember exact numbers.
