Looking for a carb for a 1.3L. New or used. Looking for something that works and don't have to screw with. Perfer aftermarket or working pony. Currently has a pony but doesn't like to idle to well.

Its on there now and runs. Can't keep a low idle, let alone a idle most of the time.

as I was writing that I was thinking about that to myself..... I think its a little more than a gasket leak. Its worth a shot, thanks mud lite

just for reference, i bought the pony carb that vern has from apony, i believe82. it was in dirty to rough condition to say the least. Vern got it for nothing (although im sure his 45 min drive wasnt cheap) nobody with asoul could sell that thing.
I would definately look at rebuilding it, from the sounds of it i believe your dad was pretty good withcarbs and im sure your not far from it.Good luck,im anxious to see how you turn out with it.

Always start with the small cheap fixes first. Find out what is causing the problem first before you start replacing things. Leaks, clogged filters, bad adjustment, dirty jets, dirty air filter, tune up, ...etc. It will be cheaper than replacing everything that doesn't need replacing. As Simko said, a rebuild wouldn't be a bad idea.

Make sure you have switched power going to the fuel cut off soleniod on that Pony carb. They'll run without power sometimes if the O-ring is bad, but will idle like crap. Just jump power to it from the battery and see if it gets better.

Is that what that little wire (male connection) off the mechanism on the side of the carb that is closest to the head is for?

yup. ;)
Edit: here's a pic. The black wire needs 12+ to supply fuel. This prevents dieseling when you shut it down.

This may explain my problems. Its currently disconnected. Hopefully this fixes it! Thanks so much.

when you put power to the wire you will hear the soleniod "click" open. If you unscrew the solenoid from the carb (looks like a small battery), you will find a small o-ring on the end of the plunger. If you remove this o-ring completely it will act as if the solenoid has constant power. It's a good idea to pull it out and blast the passage well with carb cleaner.

I just got one of those carbs - at least it looks like it in the photo - manual choke? It's got HMC on one of the vacuum actuators (whatever it's called) but no tags for ID. Anybody have any idea where to get a rebuild kit for these things. Thanks for the info on the worn O-ring on the solenoid making it not want to idle - gotta try that.

well.. couldn't wait to try it out. Wired to a 12V source and bingo. I was able to dial my idle right down to 800 or so from 2000. Thing just creeps now. Had to do a victory lap.... hopefully my carb issues are over. Thanks Canadian_zuk. I no longer need a carb!

Glad it worked out for you. I had a few more ideas if that didn't pan out. Like Mud said, always start with the free/cheap shit first.
