First and Foremost! I would like to Thank MuddMachine for inception and creation of Zookpower.ca!
Second - I cant stress enough the many thanks that goes out to Allison for everything she has done in the last X years in building up the tech part of this site.
Third - Thanks and cheers to all the moderators and admins (yes, that includes me) that have kept this site up through thick and thin giving us all an advertizing free place to hang out, exchange ideas and do what we do.
ok.. ok.. enough of the pleasantries... here's the news...
I am proud to announce that I am the official new owner of Zookpower.ca. Muddmachine has moved onto bigger and better things and Im sure you'll all join me in wishing him the best of luck in all of his future endeavors.
Some of you may have already noticed some changes so let me fill u in on what's happened and what's going to happen in the near future.
First and foremost, we (me and my fellow admins/mods) are going to be upgrading VBulletin. As Im sure many of u know.. its been hurting for a while now. This upgrade will mean the site will be down for a day or two.
While we prep for this massive upgrade, we are making changes to user accounts. Modified (Donating) users have access to more forums. Stock users have more restrictive access to the same forums... i.e. stock can view and reply to items in the for sale section but can not create new threads. Stock users can no longer download attachments. This means, if u see a link and click on it and get an error message... this is probably why.
These are by no means permanent changes as we are working hard to figure things out and find a happy medium as we fix all the broken features.
Near Future Upgrades :
• more forums specially for modified users.
• a links page for fellow zook sites!!!
• Vids - yes videos... we're gonna be putting some sweet ones up soon enough and asking ppl to send us their stuff too.
• chat room - yes were bringing that back.. Im leaning towards an irc based interface with a web based interface for those that dont have irc. This will be a 24/7 chat room so u never know who will be online at anytime for all u nite owls.
• more to come....
Most of u out there have received emails from the admin staff (it all comes from my account though) either asking current modified members to donate again or for stock memebrs to consider donating. Some of u didnt cause ur email addy's are out of date and im working on that already.
That's y we are asking for that $20/yr donation. Hosting, licensing, and registration fees cost $$.
Keep in mind that ZP was, is and will remain a non-profit site. Any excess $$ gets re-invested back into the site for things like stickers, upgrades and soon to come T-Shirts.
Atop of every forum section/ subsection there will be an occasional "Announcements". Keep ur eyes out for these as they will be the best way for u to keep informed as to changes to the site, required downtimes, etc.
Currently, we have 3 admins and 8 moderators running things. If u have any problems, u can contact any or a few of us. We all have access to all forums so any mod can fix probs in the forums. If u have a prob with ur account or require a site admin, contact myself via a pm or click on the Contact Us link on the bottom of every page and I'll get to it with 24 hours fer sure.
Once the upgrades are completed and we fix all the broken stuff and the site is stable again, we'll be taking suggestions for more fixes, upgrades, options, idea or just plain ol suggestions in the Tech Forum. Please wait for that post to be initiated by one of the admins as we have our hands full rite now.
