I just got back home from Canada last night. That's Kelowna for the rest of you. Here are a few flex shots of the new suspension. Ford ranger coils. Four link rear, three link front. Sky high steer. Does she ever drive SMOOTH. The rears are pretty stiff, as I carry quite a bit of gear. The fronts are nice and soft.
Those tires are 37" MTR's. I sold my 42's, and bought 38.5 SX's. I used the MTR's for sizeing the suspension. The SX's will be on soon.

Thanks. It has been a long time in the making. Going to Moab, the Rubicon, and Fordyce creek this year. Looking forward to it.
I'll post some pics with the 38.5 SX's and wheeling soon.

What about some details before then? what are you running for anti-squat? Length of links? type of joints? I'm with the guys on PBB, you realy want to brace up those upper link axle brakets. How much triangulation do you have in the uppers and lowers? What material did you use for the links?
This section is for fabrication, so lets see some tech!!:boot:

I havent configured any bump stops yet.
The links are made of 2" schedual 80. The rear links are 42" long. In the rear there are poly bushings at the frame, and Johnnie joints at the axle. In the front the links are the same, and are 38 inches long. There are poly bushings at the axle, and Johnnie joints at the frame. The front third link has a Johnnie joint at the axle.
In the rear, the links attatch at the frame in line with the rear double cardan attatchment of the drive line. The pivot point is the same as the attatchment of the driveline. In the front the links attatch at the same point as the front drive line attatches to the tcase.
She has Sky high steer system too.

Best I can figure is your Anti Squat will be 130%. Hope you were figuring on a large figure like that. You may wan to run a limiting strap in the rear to keep your ass end from lifting under hard acceleration. Plus the AS goes up when you climb hills, so this will stop the ass from hopping. I would also gusset those rear uppers.

Hey Lite, how do you figure that? We knew those facts when we built the rear, but we didnt have figures like that. What is your opinion on THAT type of rear suspension? I like the fact that the rear will lift when climbing hills. As opposed to squatting.
I am planning on gusseting those links reall well.
Do you have opinions on all that?

Form my experience too much antisquat will lead to hop. When doing hill climbs you will loose traction which will cause the truck to drop they rise when you get traction. This also happens when you let off the throttle too. Some comp buggies run high antiquat , but run limiting straps. I personally went for 70%.

this probely sounds like a dumb question but how do you measure (determined) how much antisquat you have how to change it or controll it

Hey Lite, without racking your brain too much, is there a way other than the limit starps to deal with this? And, how do you determin how LONG to make the straps?

This is one of the better thread on POR regarding Anti-Squat.
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=168577&highlight=antisquat
The link that Depot put up is a great program that will let you design a 4-link that will have what you want as anti-squat and roll center angles. It also gives you the strength of your links depending on what material you use. Very nice tool.
