Smoked the reverse on my little 4-sp 1982 SJ410 and am looking for some suggestions (its my plow truck for the driveway).
I do have a sammi 5sp kicking around and wondering if i dont find a replacement 4-sp can i use it?
Will it even bolt on?
Length issues?
Clutch issues?
Issue issues?
Thanks in advance!!

It will not bolt on. I would love to go to the 5sp just to get the extra gear on my SJ, but it is a no go.
If anyone does come up with a way, please let me know as well though

Hey Bellman... yeah i kinda knew it wouldnt but was hoping someone had a suggestion. I did do quite a bit of searching online and read that you can take the back end off (tail) off a 5-sp manual and it will fit into the 4-sp. It will only extend the drive trane 1". I will be attempting this sometime this week and will post the results. Prob not alot of ppl will be interested in this since it makes more sense to go to a 1.3 or 1.6 setup... just hoping it will be a QUICK FIX.

In Japan, the transmission off the 550cc engine Jimny got a 5 speed transmission. Only that transmission will bolt up to the F10A engine. The later 660cc turbos will not bolt up to the F10A. That transmission also share the same extension housing of the Suzuki Cappuccino(with the exception of the shifter mechanism).
Some people swap the gearsets from the Cappuccino into their Jimnys(or vice versa) to get at close ratio box.
The beauty of the 550cc 5 speed is that it also got a 4.095 first gear.
I called a few engine import companies here in Toronto to see if they will import a transmission for me, but no luck.
